Hi there. It seems there are two variations of power connector from the PS1 motherboard to the power board: one is 5-pin, another is 7-pin.

My Japanese SCPH-5000 has a 7-pin connector. I want to swap out the power board with a UK PSU from a PAL console, but I'm not sure which models will have a compatible power board. I guess SCPH-5002 will probably have the right one, but I don't know for sure. I haven't found any information about this from my Google searches.

If anyone has any PAL PS1s lying around that they wouldn't mind opening to see what power connector is used, that would be much appreciated :)

Anything from SCPH-500x to SCPH-900x will have the required 7-pin PSU. Anything below (SCPH-1000, SCPH-3000) will have the incompatible 5-pin type. So look out for SCPH-5002, SCPH-5502, SCPH-5552, SCPH-7002, SCPH-7502 and SCPH-9002.

By the way, there are 3rd party replacements with both a 5-pin and 7-pin connector side by side, but they were rather poorly made. The screw holes were far too big and the general construction is very flimsy compared to the official ones.

I got one of the third-party replacements... I was not happy with it. The soldering job is so poor that the switch does not fit correctly under the power button. I could fix it myself, but I don't really trust it, so I'd rather get the real thing.

Yes, I bought from three different sources, but it's all the same crap. The first one arrived damaged (the power button had become dislocated), and they sent me a replacement but the figure-8 socket detached from the board.

I bought another one from another website, but it arrived broken in two, and the next one I bought, I had only purchased because it looked to be a different model from the pictures that the seller put up. The figure-8 socket was loose once again on this one and while attempting to glue it back into place, it dettached from the unit! After that I threw them all in the bin and just got an official one (I have an SCPH-1000 and took the PSU from an SCPH-1002 to use it in the UK).

Your best option would be to disassemble a defective SCPH-5002, SCPH-5502, SCPH-5552, SCPH-7002, SCPH-7502 or SCPH-9002 machine, and take the part from it.

Check out thrift shops. If PS1s are remotely near as worthless in the UK as here, it should be no trouble. I've got three untested SCPH-5501 machines...

Thanks for your answers! Is there any online shop that you would recommend
where I could buy a used original or a third-party new one? Preferably inside European Union.

If you could use an American supply I'd send one for the cost of postage but I'm 99% sure they won't handle 220v.

As stated in previously in post five, the third party power supplies all belong in the bin due to their poor construction. You would be best off looking on eBay for a cheap PS1 and take it from there. If the seller is close to you, you may even be able to collect it from them and save the postage fee.

But I have one remaining third party one that I didn't throw away, since I did not break it in an attempt to "fix" it. It works fine and is multi-voltage (100-240v) and works on all the "fat" models since it has both a 5-pin and a 7-pin connector, but the figure-eight socket is a bit loose, so you have to be careful when inserting the power cable. If you want it, just pay the shipping.

They certainly will not. But since you just ignored my post entirely, I take it that you do not want the power supply that I was offering?

Thanks! I have found several consoles free pickup only, but neither of them was close to me.. It seems I could use that psu since it doesn't worth to spend more than 10€ to fix the console and it would be a shame to just throw it away since I could fix it and give it to my nephews. How much would be the cost to send it to Greece? :)

It will cost £1.49 to send it to you.
