Bought this from Japan as a junk console. As you might expect, stuff marked junk is usually okay - at least that is what I understand.

So I bought this, swapped a UK PSU into it from my donor console (SCPH-5552) and powered it up. It went straight to menu after the first boot screen.

Okay I thought, the laser is shot. So I swap in laser from donor console and the same thing happens.

Now, I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced anything like this before or knows how to fix such a fault.

I also tried an audio CD just now and it did the same thing. The odd thing is that the disc is spinning in the machine, so the laser appears to be operating okay and perhaps the issue is in the motherboard somehow?

I've posted a quick video I made here just to show specifically what occurs.

    Thanks!

Does the laser move or appear to be seeking at all?

    Yes. Only briefly though.

It doesn't spin up like my donor machine does in the same scenario though. After the slow start to regular spin it just maintains that speed. Tried resoldering RV703 as I couldn't get a consistent value reading from it but that doesn't appear to have done anything.
