Your first picture is a VGA cable? I have a cable identical to that one, but it's a AV adapter for PS1 (works for PS2 too). Is it the right picture?

yes, I dont know much on it other then it isnt Sync on green, and that it was some beta cable never released on the market.

here is a picture, of all three I know to exist. However I dont know that much other then what I stated.

no they do, thats the main point of the grey one, its Pure H and V, so any progressive game (with GSM and other tricks, is all of them) you can play them VIA VGA.

I also knew this dude is high price and a prick, but fuck whats the point on having an offer system when you auto-decline each one.....

No. In the picture of 3 cables, ONLY the right one is an original VGA cable.
lingjr's been hocking those converted guncon adapter cables for years with the multiAV port on the bottom replaced by a VGA port, and an LM1881 inside to extract the sync correctly- It's actually a good idea, but NOT sony original. The one on the right is the original cable, sold as part of the Sony Linux kit, however it ONLY will work if you have a sync on green monitor (or an external sync extractor).

The unmodified Sony adapters he uses are SCPH-10130 and SCPH-1160 and the conversion process is quite a simple one in the end.

Just to make sure, are we still talking PS1 and 2, or PS2 only?

PS2 VGA cables are simple to make by rewiring a component cable and adding a LM1881, but afaik the PS1 VGA boxes like the Waka were much more involved, converting the signal from S-Video. I think those guncon dongles use the former approach, so are only good for PS2s - am I mistaken?

The waka will work on ps2 as well as it does for ps1.

Now since i've learned thanks to defor here, that the cables lingr were selling are fake(I should have know better). I am only interested in non sync on green, So the waka for now is what i am interested in mainly. I found out as well on certain model playstaion 2's can be modded for Pure (h&v snc called kiss sync on green goodybye) as well as Playstation 1's can be modded for VGA(240P) as well.

so at this point just the waka is what I am looking for.

I haven't compared the PS2's quality of RGB vs component. But if one wants a one-stop box that covers 240p, 480i, and 480p games, deinterlacing when necessary, component into VGA is absolutely more user friendly. The sync mode remains the same for all resolutions. (and you don't have to deal with DVD movies turning green)

All the same, you need an upscaler if you plan to do component or RGB to vga with any 240p/480i source, unless you have effectively an RGB/CGA compatible monitor- which most "modern" via inputs aren't....
If you live in SCARTistan, you at least have a good chance that your display (if it also accepts SCART), will do 15k based signals over the VGA port. If you live int he rest of the world, or buy a "computer"-centric monitor, say something from Dell, HP, Asus, Acer, LG, Samsung that normally goes on a desk, you're likely to get NOTHING from 240p or 480i sources on the VGA port.

Lingjr definitely uses an LM1881 based solution inside these- I asked him a few years back when he was trying to sell them as part of a piecemeal linux kit- I just don't recall if he has a hex inverter in there for the sync signal or not... technically, you should have one, but from my personal experience, when outputting 480p or better off the PS2, it's made zero difference on anything I've tried- I think it's more a compliance thing with really OLD displays that aren't very flexible in their timing analysis.

thats why I want to waka and the point of this thread :)

but really thanks for the info on the stuff lingr was trying to sell. He said In the ebay that it was official beta and I couldn't anything beside the default SoG cable information (I do have a SoG monitor but my tv doesn't accept SoG)
