Japan and Europe are getting a little PS3 peripheral that turns the PS3 into a DVR - sort of like what the PSX does but better, since it works in Europe as well! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayTV I m so getting one it also supports external hard drives and streaming over local or internet network for RemotePlay The ps3 might not get my highest gaming score, but stuff like this is pretty cool albeit sometimes useless =p
Definately could be useful for some people, lets hope it makes it to the US as well. I also like what MS is doing with letting people stream their Netflix movies through their 360's.
Well I just read that PlayTV is destined for Digital Broadcast signals, which isn't that popular in Greece yet. So useless for me. I wish they d make a version for aerial FM/AM signal
I read about this a while ago. Seriously considering it. Sling box could be used by daughter to view TV upstairs as Sky will not fit a secondary line (conservatory roof just below her window) and I could view via PS3 at work! No more channel-fighting.
Have been planing to get this too, it was initial announced to be released at the beginning of this year but have been delayed for months =/
Why not run cable round yourself? PS3 has been too much of a waiting game. PlayTV was demoed a year ago, still no dual shock 3 bundles. Plus as you don't get PS2 compatibility anymore, it seems worth waiting for a price drop as it's not really that cheap still. It's annoying. But all the current generation games are pretty boring so far anyway.
Well I have the Freeview box over here in New Zealand and it's awful. Takes 45 seconds to start up and flaky as hell, I may get this to replace it.
It is still fairly cheap for a freeview PVR, granted the Hard drive is part of the PS3 not the unit itself. I seem to remember the previous Sony freeview STBs getting good reviews so I'm still probably get one. I suppose the DRM on the recorded programmes will be cracked eventually but it is a shame you can't just transfer shows to your PSP to watch later
