I, for one, am getting one as soon as I have the money after it's out.

And, yes, it does look even cooler in the commercial.

The GBA compatibility is what really convinces me, though.

It's like having every sort of sotware / hardware possibility in one little machine!

Still think the PSP is way better. Nintendo must be loosing a shit load from sellinf it so low and you don't need to buy new software for it...

It will be interesting to see if sales of the DS can be sustained after the initial pre-order and holiday rushes are fulfilled.

  8. Hmm, interesting to actually see the touch screen being used.

It seems that 2nd screen really isn't used much. Maybe just a unit with a single, much larger, touch screen would have been better?

But I am interested. Only time will tell...

How are they losing a shit load from it? If anything, Sony will get hammered from selling the PSP at $200.

Because, as I said, they loose money on a unit - that doesn't require you to buy new games to use it. Can't say it more simply.

Who would buy a DS only to play their GBA games on it?

Why would people buy a DS instead of a GBA, if all they wanted was to play GBA games? A DS costs nearly twice as much as an SP. For that amount, I'd think that consumers would buy DS centric software.

The fact is, Ninty makes money either way, as they own both properties. I think the DS will probably replace the SP, when it drops to around $100 or so. I don't see why they'd be losing a ton...again, I think Sony is getting arse-raped by selling the PSP that low!

  15. Wasn't this also true for the GBA, or for that matter the GBC?

  16. We've got demo models up in the store now, and I thought Metroid was really fun to play. Definately an odd control scheme, but you get used to it fast.

Great> Have you tried all four control schemes for Metroid?

I'm getting mine on Sunday. I can't wait!

  19. I just tried the default one, with the stylus in the right hand and moving with the D-pad, and while there are a few seconds of confusion, it is really easy to control.

Coming out tomorrow, woo hoo! :-D

    Damn...no money. :smt022

Not terrible though, as I'd probably not play the damned thing anyway...still, the touch screen is intriguing.
