Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I saw the screens when it came out and I read the review. I saw it in motion, and I just stood up and went and bought it.

    It is so, SO good.

But... I've gone and finished this gem of a game several times now.

I'm not much of an FPS gamer. I DESPISE Halo, COD, and all the generic shooters. I'm not much of a PC gamer (I do own Unreal Tournament 3). I am just barely familiar with western games, but I've played many lately.

But DX:HR was just so smart and fun and well ambiented. I had played nothing this fun in ages.

I am familiar with the first two DX games... and, well, they're not exactly what I'm looking for. I loved Metal Gear Solid 2 back in the day, if that serves as a point of reference. I'm more of a Japanese-style gamer, and I'm more of a 2D action, or old-school RPG kind of person.

I'm looking for another smart FPS (or maybe third person shooter) with focus on movement and intelligence, but a healthy dose of violence and cool weapons.

I don't own a PS3 or a gamer-grade PC. Pretty much any other modern system is okay, though. Hell, I'll get a PS3 for this one game if it's as good as DX: HR.

Anyone care to help an old gamer that's fallen out of synch with today's games?

    system shock 2.

    max payne 1,2,3

i dont know really your taste is pretty specific, personally i hated MGS2, hate is a strong word, i disliked it.

maybe check out the splinter cell games, the Hitman Series should tick the movement intelligence and violence boxes

Another friend in real life said Hitman as well. I'm guessing it can be had for cheap. Max Payne, I have heard horrible things about the third one. Might give it a try, though. I really like the depressed lonely resentful detective archetype.

I tried Saints Row Three. I had fun, but it wasn't a smart game at all. Still, you can blow off some steam.
Another friend said Bulletstorm, and that, too, was fun albeit a bit linear. I stopped playing at the Godzilla stage, but I'd certainly try that one again.

    I appreciate your help.

I say DarkWatch on PS2 is a very good game kinda decent FPS type goth/vampire feel to it & also look out for Obscure: the aftermath also on PS2 ;-) as for Japanese games you should look around for a few Visual Novel Horror Super Famicom games or a few Japanese Mega drive/Genesis games.

Thief series maybe? They are kind of old but... maybe Dishonored?

Vosse: Dishonored. Looks very interesting, actually. Thanks.

DSwizzy: A friend of mine played Thief on PC back in the day. Looks very very hardcore. Why not. I'm used to Super Fami and Mega Drive and PSX Japanese style games. That's why Deus Ex:HR, western as it is, took me by surprise and now I want more. I was always a bit interested in some western games, and ever more since Fallout 3. But this one game, I can't find anything else that compares.

I am familiar with the other Deus Ex games. There's something about them that doesn't satisfy me, though.

I do understand why it's logical to try the first one with a lot of the awesome mods available out there, but I really want something that feels more like Human Revolution.

You should seriously buy Dishonored...I've completed it three times in three different ways, "All out slaughter", "just kill the ones who deserved death" and "zero body count"...truly brilliant game, might do a forth play through using only my sword hmmm.

Well then, Dishonored has been added to my "to buy" list. Good thing that it's been out for a while. Next paycheck it is.

Haven't bought games from this generation since Dead or Alive 5.

And well, Dishonored has a very Steampunk Deus-Ex type of story, and the gameplay does look like it's similar as well.

It only cost me £15 for the limited edition so it shouldn't be that expensive, I think a new DLC has just been released for it too but I tend to not get DLC for anything unless I can get a hard copy to install from, must be my age lol.

Definitely Alpha Protocol (very underrated). Also look into Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 (not the MMORPG crap).

Try Fahrenheit & Heavy Rain, highly recommended. Also splinter cell conviction specifically is great and the bourne conspiracy is a very good TPS

Alpha Protocol, Kotor and Kotor 2, Fahrenheit.

    Alright. Taking notes of these.

Alpha Protocol really looks interesting. It should be very cheap now. Will look for this and Dishonored this paycheck.

Nothing like DX:HR, basically a generic modern FPS with a cyberpunk theme.

You should give the first Deus Ex another chance. It's one of the best games I have played in my life. The world feels alive and you always have a choice, plus the story is intriguing.

Second that. The story ages with you, in a good way :) Replaying it after reading Neuromancer e.a. and being more knowledgeable on politics etcetera was very rewarding.

intelligence and movement. quake, or to a lesser extent, CS. Only CS 1.6 is really worth a damn though.
