So I made the terrible mistake of buying a games console on eBay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ajhJep56RM (More info on the system available here) As you can see the thing boots up nicely enough, but it will not read discs. Is there anything I can do or am I SOL? Thanks~
the laser you will need is a jvc optima 5s or you can ajust the lens frist dont ajust and pots on the main board only the lens and see if that works or if not let me know and i can help as i like repairing stuff i have been doing for quite some time
I have a similar problem with a Mega CD 2 I won off eBay awhile back (can't complain, was labeled as untested). It will boot fine yet fail to spin any discs after making a few clicks. Weirdly, if I take the screws out of the system it will play music CDs and Sonic CD (but neither of my Road Avengers) in a rather jittery way (intro video stutters a lot as does the music during levels)...I think this is because the disc isn't spinning fast enough but idk. Haven't found anybody I can send it tto yet, LeftCoastGames/Sega-Parts wouldn't take it .
i can repair model 1 £15 for jap and us consoles and uk pal £45 due to laser cost if not laser fault then £15 same if it dont need a laser model 2 £15 also the sega cdx or sega multi mega would cost about £25 plus return postage witch traking with dhl £8.25 with in the uk other Countries please pm me for pirces and no fix no fee i dont charge labour only parts and shipping i am being Honest with the prices
I've got 2 MegaCD 1 units here and both have a KSS-240A laser board installed. you can get those lasers for a few bucks at ebay (new/unused). usualy the tray open/close issue is related to one or more of those triggers inside of the CD board. just use a multimeter to verify if the trigger connect.
yes there are a few theres driffernt laser in driffernt consoles but anyway could you show a picture of a drive with that laser there are different types and what region are they
h: quite nice! is there a chance to identify the unit's release date based on the serial? maybe there was a first UK batch with the same drive as in JPN? So I'm glad to have the "cheap" drive for further replacement ;-)
