Is the lag FPS drop? It's probably just making minecraft more intensive and your PC can't handle it. Run minecraft at lower graphics or s/t oh and close crap in the background that you aren't using
Also, it tends to run better in fullscreen. Maximize the window once the game has started, then press F11. The game should switch to fullscreen mode.
