I just installed a OneChip into my PAL PSOne model SCPH-102, and it's working great. Except for TWO games. Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger NTSC/U in the "Final Fantasy Chronicles" set. When I insert either game, I get the red tiles with the "Please insert a PlayStation format disk" error. Every single other game I've tried works perfectly. I tried genuine copies of Chrono Trigger NTSC/J, Final Fantasy Tactics NTSC/U, and Ghost in the Shell NTSC/U, and backup copies of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 PAL, Final Fantasy Tactics NTSC/U, and Alundra 2 NTSC/U. All of these work perfectly. It's just those two games in that one set that flat out refuse to work. The orange diamond "Sony" logo doesn't show for an extended length either, it's like the PSOne isn't even trying to read the disks. I successfully created ISO images of both disks, so I know they're readable. They have some very light scratches, but still work well. Any ideas?
I have had problems with Chrono Trigger even on a brand new system with brand new discs. THAT one is hardly surprising. I have never heard of major issues with FFIV though. I would bet that it is a compatibility issue with your mod chip. A lot of the Squaresoft remakes use a customized snes emulator. Chrono Trigger actually contains a fully functional SNES rom on the disc. I personally would take this as a sign that you should pick a different version of these games anyways if you actually want to play it.
Sounds like you don't have a stealth chip or the playstation security part pressed into the disc is corrupted.
I'd have thought that if the title was incompatible then the Japanese version of the same game wouldn't work... Its very bizarre. It's a OneChip that I bought from BadAd84 on this forum. Its supposed to be the best one for a PAL system, stealth and video mode fix and all that.
IIRC it's harder for us. Without any kind of video fix, PAL games should try to use NTSC50 on a NTSC system from composite/svideo.
it's anyone of the problems mentioned before. Install a decoupling cap and check the installation (cold joint, too much long cables ecc) Also this problem sometimes it's caused by a bad status of the cd or the laser Onechip it's the best for psone system, and it's stealth too
It would be nothing to do with not being a stealth chip anyway. Protected games still boot on non stealth chips, they just stop during the game. It also wouldnt be anything to do with the "playstation security part pressed into the disc is corrupted" as a console with a chip doesnt use that anyway - its all provided by the modchip, not the disc. Infact, if that was the case it would ONLY work in a modchip system. Were these originals you tried? Either way, burn to another disc. Also clean the laser. The decoupling cap (100nf) between ground and vcc on the chip (pin 1 and 8) is also a good idea
Yes, they are originals. I'm going to try burning copies of them today. OK, I can try those. Still a bit of a head-scratcher, that it's these two games, and ONLY these two games. They even work in my chipped PS2! So strange. Edit: OK, I made backup copies of those original disks, and the backups boot and work perfectly. SO this burnt CD is working better than the genuine CD!!! Argh!
Read around the forum, there are discussions about CD-ROT on PS1 originals ... -_-; Also, the CD burner you have probably is years ahead on DSP processing power over a PS1 drive, being able to correct errors better, which would result on it being able to read the disc better than the original hardware. Not to mention the fact that CD/DVD burners can "gush" more laser power on the media than a PS1 can, making it even better than the original drive at reading poorly readable discs ... Oh well ...
:grief: :grief: :grief: For real!?!?! On pressed originals!?! Noooooo.... :sorrow: Could the PSOne's laser be adjusted to try to get them to work perhaps? That really sucks, they're two of my favourite games!!
Use the backups to prolong the life of the discs. When you think about it, the better it is. Preserve your favourite games It's weird that's happening though.
