Doesnt set prices imply first come first get, and the rest are more of an auction format? It was my impression that the auction status was really only reserved for the rare items. Oh well. I say Set Prices.

I voted number three, but I prefer the first option.

It's tough to pick a proper answer IMO. I don't like the auction type of selling on message boards. The main problem with set prices is it tends to turn into a thread crap when the price is too high for someone.

Good point, another possible issue with the auction is illegitimate bids pushing the price up. Perhaps if it wins there should be restrictions on who can place bids?

  7. I'm pretty much in agreeance here - most items need to have set prices (though should the seller choose to make them open to negotiable offers as well, that's fine), with VERY exceptional, visible bid auctions available for really rare stuff - we're talking Super A'Can or functioning M2 unit rare here, not reasonably common stuff like a Katana devkit or what have you.

  9. ...Me too, I didn't vote 'cos this option was missing :)

Remember, that this wont stop complaints on "overpriced" items because who really is the judge of that? I mean especially when it comes to something that is rare but hardly anybody has heard of the game/protoype/etc. and its the first time anybody here is selling, the seller can charge any amount he wants. Thats ok because this is a freemarket :), but of course someone will complain, like with what happened to the seller of the crystal xboxes, he ended up leaving because of all the complaints he got from 2 people saying how overpriced the systems were.

Thats what I don't want to happen. I don't want the new members to feel discouraged not to sell their items for fear that they'll be ridiculed by older members because they think that what they are charging for the item is overpriced, and then the mods come in and they will listen to the older members over the new member and take action. This in turn discourages more new members from creating a FS thread. Or worse they create a thread asking how much such and such item is worth and people will come in and tell them that its worth $5 or its worthless, when in fact its worth $100+ on ebay, but the seller might not know that obviously if hes asking the question.

Basically, what I don't want happening is to where we end up creating an "unofficial committee" that "judges" what the price should be on an item and knock down the people that disagree with such prices if they feel it's inflated. This stuff can happen if we decide to have set prices, and thats it, no offers, etc.

I feel that we should have general understanding that normal games, normal hardware, thats sold here should be sold at a decent price that both favors the seller and the buyer. This should also apply to rare items like the Sonic Xtreme, Resident Evil 0N64, VF3 for the Saturn, etc. This will require more involvement in the community to reach a general agreement rather than having a "rule book" of some sort to turn to when there is something being sold and we are not sure what the price is and that we have to follow that book or be chasticed if we question it.

I hope you guys get what I'm trying to say here.

  12. Considering the lameness with the Sonic game (ppl from other boards fake bidding, wondering if this even existed)...etc. I say set prices. If there is going to be an auction then I say only established members should bid...none of this Ratman crap.

Anyone bitching about prices and thread crapping will just have their posts deleted and be warned.

We just need to get rules down that most people are happy with so we can actually moderate with some sort of consistency.

I would rather people made offers than just having fixed prices, but it doesn't make a huge difference to me whether they're visible or not. Whenever I sell stuff on other boards I tend to go with the 'Offers around £60' type rather than the 'Make me an offer'->'How much do you think it's worth?'->'I don't know, that's why I said make an offer'->'But I don't know how much to offer'->'Whatever we both agree is reasonable will do'->'But I don't know what's reasonable and I don't want to be ripped off'->'Bugger off you spineless moron' cycle I tend to get locked into ;)

If I had to have a set price on Sonic X-Treme, there would BE no thread here, and it would have been done entirely in secrecy without most of you knowing it exists.
