It was just what partnernet was called later on. It's just one of many Environment files.

unrelated question but similar to this topic, has anyone recorded a walkthrough tour guide on the XePartnernet but only from private web stream videos or uploaded to IRC by certain members there?

Some but not in a long time since no dev uploads to partnernet anymore because it keeps getting leaked.
Also because partnernet servers are ip restricted and the white ist only goes down for 2 hours everyday. If you join on the wrong time of day your ip is banned and your devkit becomes a bricked paper weight.

Can someone confirm the accuracy of KJTR's statement?

Is it infact "safe" to potentially take a kit online between 3-5 am PST, as the whitelist goes down? I genuinely just want to see what PartnerNET is like, and maybe use it for a system link service. I'm not interested in stealing stuff etc.

I've never heard of the whitlist being lifted at any point in the day though, but I've never really looked into it :L

Heck just think about it, Why would it go down? Unless it was done on purpose then there is no reason at all for it.

My understanding is if you attempt to connect at ANYTIME it would just fail if you're not connecting via white listed IP. No ban, just no connection.

Not to mention that if this was something known by anyone, it would be known by all in these sorts of dealings and MS would be daft to leave it open for even a few hours with people and their "self procured unauthorized XDKs" would be nabbing up alpha/beta builds and sharing them amongst the interwebs.

However, if this is not the case and I am totally wrong; someone please prove it. Somehow show it's possible between those hours via XBMovie or something and prove it. Otherwise it's simply speculation.

I kinda hope its true xD

I was reading a post from a couple of years ago with some guy saying that his Kit was able to connect and was receiving dummy updates, but I have no idea of the legitimacy of that post and whether the updates were malicious.

It genuinely doesn't make sense to me though if this is the case. Why on earth would you remove the whitelist in the early hours of the morning? I thought M$ would've known to have just kept it up 24/7. Perhaps this is maybe something related with updating the content on PNet, and they need to remove the whitelist in order to do some things? Doubtful, but it makes a little sense.

*Also, I'd be up for giving it a go, considering where I live those hours are actually pretty good (11am - 1pm), but I've spent a lot of money on my kit and I only have one, and I'd rather not have it "phoning home" and getting a nasty brick. I heard you can remove a resistor to stop those updates M$ remotely sent back in the day from bricking your kit? Anyone know the accuracy of that?

It was true at one point that you could get a kit brick out of "phoning home". I do not know the legitimacy of it currently. I had one console banned from partnernet in my time but never a brick so I do not know first hand. Heard rrod 0022 is an indicator of a partnernet brick.

However one thing I'd like to remind everyone: ASSEMbler himself has this to say about discussions regarding PartnerNet: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/discussing-how-to-exploit-partnernet-is-now-forbidden.27073/

So far we haven't crossed that line yet but I feel it warrants bringing up so we do not step over said line.

I agree. However, in our defence I don't believe we are "exploiting" PNet; all we're doing is discussing a rumour and I was asking if removing a resistor could stop an M$ brick. I think we all have enough common sense to know that asking how to steal Alpha and Beta builds is just stupid and warrants a ban, but simply discussing whether or not PNet is whitelisted 24/7 is acceptable? Someone please let me know if I'm wrong? :L

    Thanks

No we are still within the realm of the "okay" discussion. I'm just reminding everyone to keep it safe in discussion because it is a thin line for some.

I got my kit in. It has to do with modding the Extended System Partition. When I test connection, it tells me I'm banned, just need to swap kvs but I'm lazy, and forgot the very tedious process without brickIng the kit. Point is though, I am making a connection past the whitelist block. *thumbs up*
