Wouldn't know about Pocahontas, but it was a blatant rip of Fern Gully in almost every respect. Didn't stop me enjoying it!
I remember someone did the same with FF VII's and VIII's storylines. ^^ Haven't seen Avatar yet, but I'm planning to do it within the next week. As mainstream as Cameron is, he's a genius in his profession. While a Michael Bay started acting like a punk rocker since he heard some emotional Green Day songs, Cameron has been losing his teeth since the late 70's. It's quite unusual that he shows us such strong women in action oriented movies. Terminator 2, True Lies, Titantic, Aliens, Avatar... all featuring powerful gals, yet I cannot seem to find any of them particularly attractive, maybe I'm a good old chauvinist, who can tell He's teh king. And it may be due to my personal obsession with the subject, but I also quite enjoyed Titanic which is hated by most men ^^
I haven't seen the movie yet, but this isn't the first time i read about this comparison. http://www.ovelho.com/content/loura-burra-de-james-cameron The text is in portuguese, but there's one image that will be better than words.
Watching Avatar was unbearable, he did nothing to cover the fact that he just copy/pasted indians and settlers but on another planet.
Regardless, it's still a good film and a feast for the eye's. Then again I guess you could say the same about avatars story line as you could most other films released
Yeah, the Pocahontas story has been remade oh so many times already and this is basically just another one. The opening isn't fully over yet and you already know how it's gonna end. But still, I enjoyed Avatar. It entertained me a lot and has an amazing soudtrack.
