I've had one for a very long time and made absolutely NO use of it.
There's an eBay seller that spent a few years in Japan and was born in my home town, I won an eBay auction for an unopened Pocketstation at about $60 and after he saw my shipping address he cut it in half for me! =)
The only interesting thing I do with it is use it to store my custom DDR stepcharts for arcade use, and I put the leash on my USB drive.
I've always wanted the Pocket Dungeon Maker but since I speak/write 0 Japanese I'd never be able to use it.
A nice novelty but little more without a solid grasp of Japanese.
Oh yeah, and Zilog is quite right about the battery life, mine lasted less than a month... however that was with the Sony 2032 that came in the box, it may have been a bit discharged from age.

P.S.: I'd have to pull my box 'o boxes out of storage but I'm pretty certain it said SONY on it, but then again I remember hen I was first looking for mine on eBay there were commonly two different packagings. Mine is the more plain white one the looks like it has a smile on the side.

Metal Gear Solid Integral, the jap version of course, uses the pocket station, but since I don't have a Pocket Station, I can't tell you how it uses it.

Say, technically there would be no problem with PS2 games using the PocketStation... any do so?

It does? Can anyone say what the Pocketstations use was for it?

  5. Nah, PS2 games won't interface with the Pocketstation, as it is just really a 15-block PSOne memory card, and PS2 games won't touch it if it's not the 8MB memory card.

Well yes, but as there is no real hardware constraint, someone *could* make a game for PS2 that includes a Pocketstation minigame.

    Polycons

What's more is that the PS2 recognizes the PocketStation AS a PocketStation and not just a generic PS1 memory card.
Plug one in and go to Browser, it's name in the top right will be PocketStation and it'll have a cute little polygoned image of it. =)

Cool. This isn't just on NTSC-J PS2s is it? Can ppl try this on PAL/NTSC PS2 and PStwoooo just to see? If you can be arsed...

Seems interesting that PS2 recognises it. Maybe Sony had plans for a PocketStation2 to go with the PS2, had the first one succeded? Maybe colour display and all sorts?
