So I bought a used copy of Pokemon Sapphire on eBay, and it came with a dead battery. NBD, I replaced the battery. But it still says "The internal battery has run dry…" every time I start the game. I tried creating a new save file, setting the clock, and saving, but if I check the clock in-game it doesn't move and it still says the battery is dead every time I start the game.

Is there something else needed to do to kickstart the RTC? Or maybe something else is bad/maybe I nicked something with my soldering iron while installing the new battery?

I realize the negative lead isn't soldered as cleanly as it could be, but it does look like it's connected...

Well. I answered my own question. I'm not sure what was wrong there, but after desoldering the battery I had just installed, cleaning the solder pads with solder wick and then isopropyl to remove the flux, and soldering a different (also new) cr1616 while being especially careful to bend the leads so that the battery was hovering above the ROM chip and not shorting anything…it works.
