I've started trawling through the plethora of threads we have created regarding the PS2 Tool. It's all sunk to the bottom of the threads list, so before it becomes lost, forgotten or impossible to obtain the single relevant piece of information required, can I ask what sort of info. a new PS2 Tool user would find useful? I have started with password reset (makes sense as a few people have not been able to get past that point), then how to run a title, stop and get into debug mode. I also added Ports webinterface password reset info. Anyone who's added info will get the bulk of the credit as this isn't my area! I am merely compiling it! Let me know what you want in it, whether you have anything you wish to add. PM me the information and I shall drop it in. Thanks in advance.
I guess if you haven't already, put in the dipswitch meanings. Maybe also what DVD/EMU and TOOL/WS 's functions/settings do. I'd try but I'm sure you could do a better description of the latter  I also have a few questions that would like answering, so I guess would be good to put in the guide - 1. The way to change a command to a custom word (IE startgame>start or whatever). 2. How to network the Tool with a computer (Both PC and Tool side) 3. How to completely shutdown the tool via linux command (IE avoiding holding the power button) Also I'm sure a link to the wonderful disassembly guide will be helpful if the new owner has had their Tool posted to them
There's a lot of stuff to be put into this and it's taken me a few hours already. One thing I have just realised. I have never changed the Login name on any of the units I have dealt with. I've got the password reset for both the standard login and Port's information on reseting the password for the webinterface, but not how to change the login name. Is that changeable at the Lilo > [TAB] stage also?
Well, it's currently running in at 15 pages in length... some basics manual huh! Would love to now hand it over to someone else to proof read who's got the technical abilities to A) spot my errors B) add more information and C) give me a break from this task. I've been reading through almost every Tool posting backwards and forwards trying to find relevant information. Some of the material I have read is totally new to me and/or way above my head. It's also 2:40am (approx) and I've been sat doing this now since about 10. Argh my eyes feel like sand has been poured into them! Who fancies a bash? It's a Word document.
I don't have the technical abilities, but I do have some history reviewing technical documents, so I can have a look for typos, editing etc? I'm busy this week, but on the weekend I could get my TOOL out (so to speak) and run through the guide to make sure everything works? Dave.
Yes, agreed but as they go hand in hand I thought it might be a good additional resource. I've taken my cues from the information compiled by <cough!> one Unclejun and Port187 (plus many others) in the vast array of Tool threads that have sprung up in the last year or so. I'm taking the relevant information and producing a Quick Guide to the PS2 Tool that a few people have suggested would be useful. Given my memory issues, I also feel that I should detail as much as possible in the one document. You'd be surprised at how much detail we all went into! I had forgotten a lot of it despite contributing some of it (damn this memory of mine). I welcome any input! You'll see!
I'd love to put in some help - I don't have much knowledge of linux, or Tool for that matter, but am pretty good at proof reading and can always check with my Tool to see if the commands work etc as its sitting next to my PC now. If you want to send me what you have got so far I can go through it this afternoon and tomorrow day.
