Saw it like a long time ago, but... mmm is nature, dont you think is cruel when a dinasour kills an animal that is just drinking water, what about a lion that eats a monkey alive? what about a shark that eats a fish?

I lived in brasil for 10 years. I lived in a tiny backwater place with no electricity till i was like 5 or something. I remember having a farm next to me and getting fresh milk from a cow and fresh chicken eggs and things. However this is far from that senario which would be a much better life for them.

Saw this a long time ago. While it is horrible (the pig that was badly burnt and still alive made me really sad), it's made by the PETA, and they always show the worst case scenario.

  8. Yeah, never look to PETA if you want an objective look at the meat processing industry - they'll find the one worst slaughterhouse anywhere and have it as their animal rights poster child. Or maybe I'm just a little disgruntled in light of their often very in-your-face "You should become vegetarian, you sick murdering fuck!" mission.

Either way, it never ceases to amaze me that people are so willing to get worked up for an 'animal rights' cause, yet we have millions of starving, impoverished and sick human beings that essentially get ignored like the filthy bum on the street corner that has you crossing to the other side a block away just to avoid him.

Well, the way they die is a bit cruel, nobody wants to die that way, but that's life. It does not change my views on what I eat...

First off, I can't see the video, but I think I have a reasonable idea of what's going on. With that said...

Both should be taken care of, I don't see why it has to be one or the other.

That's exactly the opposite of what happens to this meat: it's for rich westerners. As an example, the pastures used to raise said meat could be turned over to growing crops, which have a yearly yield which is orders of magnitude higher than meat. That would help feed the hungry people of the world.

I'm not a vegetarian, incidentally, and I feel similarly offended as you all do when others try and cram their vegetarianism down my throat; it's my decision, not anyone elses, and I feel that I could kill an animal and eat it, so I don't mind eating meat. However when I see people getting angry about PETA and similar organisations, it generally strikes me that they're trying to legitimise their apathy toward animal rights. I think we can all agree that animals should not be subject to poor living conditions, why should an organisation that campaigns for better living conditions offend any of you? Maybe I'm missing something, we don't get their adverts here in Britain (or I've managed to avoid them)...

That was a pretty nastly video but I've seen worse. I don't know how those people who work in slaughter houses can do their job.

They get used to it. They have to anyway.

  18. Alchy: I'm not sure how they are in the UK, but here in the states PETA is far from a legitimate defender of animal welfare. The PETA is one of those organizations that tries their best to cram vegetarian/veganism down your throat if you'll give them half the chance, and if they spent half as much time actually working for humane conditions in certain slaughterhouses or animal welfare issues as they do crafting elaborate campaigns on the evils of meat, leather, etc. or harassing legitimate businesses or food chains, then I'd venture to guess that there wouldn't BE issues with cruelty to animals in the world today.

Plus there's the whole issue of them having funded in the past (and possibly continue to do so) terrorist (and no, not the W definition of the word) organizations such as the Animal Liberation Front. Google either Peta or the ALF and search past the obvious propaganda sites (both for and against) and you'll see that they aren't really the benevolent protectors of cute widdle animals they pretend to be.
