Why would you ever store stuff in a shed? Especially easily biodegradable and temperature/humidity sensitive stuff like cardboard boxes, paper manuals, CDs, and cartridges? I'm not saying everyone should store their collections in vacuum bags and never play with things... but at the bare minimum, can't you keep it in an indoor closet inside your insulated/climate controlled house?
I once stored a bag of guinea pig food outside and some mice got into it. $25 loss. This guy should've known what he was getting himself into.
I don't get why someone who considers himself a videogme collector would actually put his cardboard boxed N64 games & other sensitive stuff in a shed :/ I am sorry to say that I don't feel bad for him at all but for the games themselves. Less copies of those games in the world...
Those walmart thin sheds are pure shit, my dad bought one when I was a kid and I remember he had to put sealant everywhere to keep rain water from rusting his tools. Then on winter it couldn't even take half a foot of snow, it collapsed like a jenga
Boxes etc are fucked but I reckon most of the games might still work. Saw this when Larry first put it up, felt bad for him at the time, still feel bad now.
It's not a lack of common sense. I've had it happen before. Fantastic weather forecast, put something in the shed overnight while moving things around and suddenly it pisses it down while im asleep. Total unluck. Any boxes that are complete wrecked i'd just bin. I'd start by opening all the carts that have wrecked labels and putting aside all the boards. The labels are long gone so I'd probably just chuck them all in a large basin of water to clean off all the shitty mucky water and hopefully whether away the labels. The boards would probably require a thorough cleaning, probably in Isopropyl/rubbing alcohol and chances are they'd run. I've had things like PCI cards come out from floods (we had a terrible one circa 2000) and after cleaning work fine. Any carts that dont have ruined labels but have gotten mucky I;d go to work on it with isopropyl or something to get rid of the crap, then do the board process like mentioned earlier. Consoles would probably be the same. The stickers and boxes are long gone on most probably. Since they are for his/my (theoritically) personal collection and not selling I'd print the labels and stuff for them so they looked pretty again.
Like I said lack of common sense. You might as well put the boxes in the garden under some tarp for all the good it would do. Unless you live in a Japanese capsule pod, there should be no reason why you can not put boxes like this elsewhere in a house, if you are moving around.
Regardless if it was stupid to store things (temporary) in a shed, it's such a waste and sucks big time for that guy!
He should take out the good stuff out of there. I was thing of building a arcade michine in the shed but not yet water proof. as there's no Room in the house I was going to build it from a tv and some other cool things.
I have seen that video a long time ago and i fell bad for the games not for the guy, im not a hater but storing a collection in a shed? Seriosly? i simply dont understand, its just the same way i fell when it shows on the news about a tornado in US that destroyed a bunch of houses and im like. "Gess what americans, if you would do brick house like everybody else your house would still be intact." Again shame to see games beeing destroyed like that but seriosly next time safe guard your games well.
Yup, that's what he said. Bizarre. In the video description he mentions he lost his job too. Poor guy!
