    so he wants to export popemobiles to africa for protection instead of condomes?

    hmm....

    highly inefficient, they are huge and expensive. this will slow down the war on aids in africa tremendously!

    However, I'm not surprized anymore by this kind of statements, they look more like a desperate call for attention than anything else. Ignore them is the only effective answer IMO.

    After 1936 membership in the Hitler Youth was mandatory so using that against him is a bit of a stretch.

    I think this is a good example of how religious dogma can cause some to make unintelligent decisions. Thing is, in order to be inline with the precepts his religion upholds, he cannot take any other stance. The dogma is "Unmarried sex = teh bad" so no stance can be taken that would in any way construe that sex can be for any other reason besides procreation. In order for the Pope to condone condom use, he must find some place in either the Bible or other Catholic dogma that can be interpeted to reverse this position.

    So really, it's not his fault. He's just doing what he has to do. This phenomena is by no means restricted to Catholicisim - look at Fundamentalist Islam in regards to the way women are treated, or Fundamentalist Christians and gay rights. These institutions are limited by centuries of decisions and dogma that change at a snail's pace. It's no wonder atheisim is on the rise, in the west at least.

    I'm supposed to be Catholic btw, but I'm more of an Agnostic.
