Today was an interesting day. This was all at one Goodwill. The Atari stuff was expensive and cuz of this I left a lot of it behind. The Music Composers were $20 each. Not sure if I overpaid but took the risk as they are NIB. The two Atari games were $14.99 each. Once again, not sure if I overpaid but hopefully not as they are NIB too. The Gears of War Collector's Edition was $9.99 and the Gameboy games were $2.99 each. The Tomy Tutor is pretty rare I guess. It cost me a whopping $39.99 but I think it's NIB as well so I think there may be quite a profit in it. The Goodwill had a bunch of boxed computer Atari stuff I left behind including programs like Paint and stuff and also about 9 tablets for the Atari priced at $30 each. Too bad they were so high cuz they coulda been a great flip.
I prefer good will / thrift shops over pawn shops, you're generally less likely to find gaming goodness but when you do it's always dirt cheap
Unusual, but nothing special afaik. I'd check ebay really. Yours is amazingly mint and would be a high value (going by the one photo)
Thats what I was thinking after some more research. i'd probably break even and might make some extra cuz it may be new. we'll see.
You overpaid on the Music Composers. Those are super common and run $10 from various Atari dealers that still sell them NIB like B&C. You did ok on the two Microprose games, although they are also still readily available for $20 each NIB from a couple dealers. The Tomy Tutor is probably worth $100 or so on Ebay assuming it's NIB, so I think you did ok on that. Gears of War is missing the outer sleeve, but I'm assuming you're planning on playing it and not reselling, so no big deal.
I stop regularly at a thrift store in a nearby town, got a lot of good stuff but the only time I found anything older than a few NES games was a handful of 2600 titles. Theres a nice Laserdisc player I have my eye on that is $150 there but they drop prices regularly. Almost picked up a player they had for $7 but decided I don't really need two players. Plus the $7 model was banged up. The $150 has a huge dent in a corner suggesting the internals might not look too good.
The very first generation of gamers is at that age now where unexpected decline of health is not uncommon. Items that end up at the Goodwill are frequently the things that didn't move at the estate sale after the death of the original owner. When's the last time you went to an estate sale looking for games?
Man that was depressing, although I can picture some of the 20-something dudes that hang around games stores when I was a kid being in their late 40s right now and having no idea whats going on now. "Is the VR thingie out yet? does it works with my Genesis or I need an adaptor? also, get out of my lawn!"
Just a follow-up, the Tutor sold for $201. Pretty nice as I was worried about how much I spent on it.
I went to a Salvation Army the other day and got 3 PSX games for $2. Pretty good deal I thought. Moto Racer, Moto Racer 2, and Gran Turismo. I thought it was kinda odd that GT has only 1 disc because it has a 2 disc case, but the cover says "1 disc."
