Hi ho, about the portable CD-i units, well the ones with the screens. There are 2 versions right, the Phillips one and another make (Sanyo?), I'm pretty sure the latter can't, but do either support the upgrade card either built in to that level, or an available upgrade?? Thanks.
Actually there are several portable CD-i units. Philips CD-i 310 Philips CD-i 360/350 Philips CD-i 370 GoldStar GPI 1100/1200 Sony IVO-V10 and IVO-V11 Kyocera Pro 1000S NBS LookmanID Ok, as for MPEG support, I know for sure that both GoldStar units had it by default, and the Philips CD-i 370 [which was basically a re-named GoldStar GPI] had it was well. The CD-i 360/350 needs a Digital Video Cartridge, as does the CD-i 310. I think the NBS LookmanID also has MPEG support by default, since it was based on the GPI as well. As for the Sony IVO CD-i players, they could not be upgraded with Digital Video Technology. And for the Kyocera unit, I don't know. If you are looking to buy one, your best bet would be either the GoldStar GPI 1200 or the Philips CD-i 370. Both of them have MPEG support by default, and both come with an attached screen. [some of the other portable units required you to buy a separate screen]
Right thanks, didnt realise there were that many units, how bizarre more company's supported the hardware than the 3DO in a similar scenario. One thing that is irking me, these units seem to have left handed controls, what that all about heh, hope one can plug a controller in.
