I read in a couple of places - here and some other site, possibly kotaku - that the PS3 version of Portal 2 will include a code that will allow you to download the PC version for free. Is there an official statement from Valve to that effect, or is it a lie? It would be rather annoying if I bought the PS3 version and then found out that it didn't include the code. I mainly just want the PC version, but it couldn't hurt to have the PS3 version as well. P.S.: Sorry for the numerous consecutive posts.
Yep, the PS3 version of Portal will allow you to tie that copy of portal to a Steam account and play it on PC also. I'm not sure of the specifics though. EDIT: "In addition, those who purchase Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 may unlock a Steam Play (PC & Mac) copy of Portal 2 at no additional cost by linking their PSN and Steam accounts." ""We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers," said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. "PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites."" http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1144414p1.html
wow! that's really cool. it sounds like Valve has finally worked things out with the PS3 and shifting their focus from the 360.
I assume you mean portal 1? If so, yeah I don't think so. If you really hate a mouse and keyboard, buy a 360. If thats too much, buy a wired 360 controller for the PC version! ;-)
Wasn't Portal 1 in The Orange Box for PS3? I don't recall it being a standalone release but I'm pretty sure it was included.
Portal 1 was on The Orange Box, although be warned that the PS3 version had a tendency to be buggy (which is partially why Valve moved PS3 development in-house for Portal 2).
Oh never mind. I never knew OB was on PS3, but then Martin's comment makes even less sense to me then. ;-)
Yes, but it was called "Portal" wasn't it? ;-) Not sure. I was given orange box on 360 and never played it. I didn't know Orange Box was on PS3 either, but how does that change my original comment? My comment was in response to: i.e. it'd be cool to play the original Portal (never having done so), but I am not really interested in playing games on PC, especially with a mouse.
It is related to your original comment in that Portal is included in the Orange Box on PS3 (and in every other version), therefore you can play Portal on a PS3. Also, I believe you can play the PC version with a 360 controller.
When I made my post, Orange box hadn't been mentioned. I don't see how something being written after my post makes my post then seem irrelevant, unless people read boards backwards these days.
Uh... what? I didn't say your post was irrelevant. I was just explaining that you were mistaken. You were saying that you didn't want to play Portal with a mouse, with the implication that you'd like to play it on a PS3. The other implication of the things you said was that you cannot play Portal on a PS3. That is wrong. It doesn't matter if it had been said or not, it is still wrong. Maybe I misunderstood your posts, but it seemed pretty clear to me.
I totally read that as "Postal 2" was was thinking "why the hell are they bothering porting that game so many years after it was released and when did Valve get involved". Read 4-5 posts before I realized it was "Portal 2".
