Hey guys, updated the os to v23, it wrote ok then said success.. now i only get a black screen. Tried holding A+B+C at boot, no good. Any ideas? :crying:
Are you holding ABC down before you actually turn the system on? If not you should. I am not sure how its possible to get a black screen on the back-up OS from a bad OS flash since that version shouldn't be affected. Very weird. Maybe Igor can shed more light.
Have you tried to remove/put back in your SD card (or try another one). I recently got a black screen on my everdrive (black screen after the "Licenced by sega" screen) OS V23 like you, removing/putting back the SD card solved this in my case. EDIT: it wasn't right after the os update, it was when I tried it on my nomad, so it may just be some contact issue.
Yeh, thanks guys. Tried Holding ABC then switching on, and tried without the SD card too.. nothing. Think it may be fooked.. Shame. I wonder if i can send it for repair and Re-flash to latest OS and FIRM? Hey Krikzz could this be done? Thanks
On some of the cards you have to hold up+a+b+c... also depending on what firmware you have you may have to put in a game like sonic, start playing it (so the controller is active), pull it out and swap in the everdrive while holding a+b+c when it reboots... that's what i had to do at least. http://www.youtube.com/user/biokrik#p/u/7/S64trH2hUOU for a video of doing that.
cde you can send your cart for reflash if not possible to repair. which firmware and PCB version? you see Licenced by sega" screen? some old carts use up+a+b+c combination for repair aslo, as BM-Viper says, this video may help to repair os on old carts http://www.youtube.com/user/biokrik#p/u/7/S64trH2hUOU
Thanks KRIKzz, im not at home till tomorrow, ill try the up+A+B+C, and the Sonic 1/ other cart method when i get home. If its a no go i would like to send my Everdrive back to you for re flash/repair. Its a V2.1 PCB i think with V5 Firm and V23 OS..
Hey, A+B+C+UP worked... YEH. Thanks KRIKzz and everyone else. Re flashed OS v23, works great. Happy Bunny Now. On a Side note, and i already asked this but got no reply, Im after a compatable JTAG USB to update my Firmware. Anybody know of a good one available in the UK? Ta..
I bought this one:- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280506472755 It has free international shipping and its apparently the same one KRIKzz uses:- The original ebay link (posted by ackmed) is dead now (and just takes you to a generic ebay search page. However my ebay link above is current and is for the same item relisted from the same seller) For future reference the ebay seller is "electronics_lee" and the auction is titled "Altera FPGA CPLD USB Blaster programmer JTAG cable" Dont forget you also need a 10 pin header, I recommend a right angled one so you can hold it against Everdrive contacts easily. I bought mine from here:- http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/connects.html Near the bottom under "Boxed Header Straight & Rt Angle PCB Mount." you want a "10-way Rt-Angle". They are 20p each but P&P is £1.50 so you might want to order some other stuff at the same time? Its a really good UK site for electronics bits and bobs
Just checked the link and its not dead, he has 10 for sale at the moment. Out of interest did you get hit with any import duties etc? And thanks for the heads up on the Header, i have a only have a straight one, ill see how it goes. Thanks for your help..
Glad I could help  No I didnt get hit with any import duties, although I cant remember what the seller declared the value as - sorry. Also, I guess I wasnt clear enough about the ebay listing (I have edited my post now for clarity) I meant the original ebay link quoted from ackmed is dead (It just takes you to a generic ebay search) The ebay link I put above the quote is the current listing for the exact same item relisted by the same seller, but it obviously has a different item number from the original link. I mentioned the sellers name and item title so that when that listing also ends someone reading this thread in future should still be able to find it if the seller has relisted it again.
No worries! Couple of last points... - Make sure you insert the connector/header the correct way into the Everdrive (KRIKzz had a picture of the correct orientation in a thread around here, but I cant find it now) - Also remember that the Everdrive only receives power from the Mega Drive, so you must have the Mega Drive powered up with the Everdrive inserted to be able to update the firmware.
Thanks link83, ordered a "Altera FPGA CPLD USB Blaster programmer JTAG cable" from the same guy you did. Glad i found one.
