Possible Mega Drive Controller Dev Item? Hi all, Bit of an odd one this - today I came across a skip full of old computers (Aged around 1990-1995) and inside I saw some a bundle of old game controllers. Taking a closer look they appeared to be third party controllers for the Mega Drive, and having followed them back to the plug I noticed that there were six controllers connected to a long metal expansion strip that had about 10 ports (serial/com ports?) Two of the connected controllers were official Sega Mega Drive controllers and four were third party ones. The strip was not connected to a PC, and it had no markings of any kind that I could see. At the time I didnt think much of it, but now that I came home I had a quick google and read that Mega Drive controllers cant usually be connected to a PC in this way? So it made me wonder what I had actually seen. Unfortunately I didnt grab the part as I figured it was some common old expansion slot thing (There wasnt any circuit board, just wires and ports) and I didnt have a camera handy, but im curious to know what it could have been? and if there was any PC it would have connected to? (Its about 30cm long and wouldnt fit in any PC I know of) Perhaps a Mega Drive development PC  if so I might try and take a further look! (If its still there...) I have drawn a pic of roughly what it looked like:- (Not a great drawing I know!) Any ideas?
I guess from the lack of replies that this is nothing of any interest and that I should just forget about it? My only thought was that this could have been from a dev unit that could still be in the skip, and that it would be a shame for it to me trashed completely...:crying:
It might not be anything special (I have no idea) but why not run back to the skip and grab it before it goes, grab some first and third party pads too, I'll gladly take some off your hands. Never second guess yourself, you never know what it might be.
Yeah, definitely grab stuff while you can! I would've grabbed it there and then. Was it anywhere near a (former) studio?
Thanks for the replies. It wasnt near any former studio that I know of, but to be honest I wouldnt know what studios were around my area in the early 90's. I would have grabbed it there and then, but I was dressed up and on the way to a meal and it would not have looked good if I had been jumping in a skip - plus I dont know how I would have explained the jumble of six old Mega Drive controllers and a big 'metal rod' at the restaurant  Unfortunately I havent been able to get back there yet (Its not very local, and I dont drive) but if im able to I will definitely be grabbing this part  I have hope that it will still be there as it is in a very disused/abondoned area. I will of course be updating this thread if I manage to get it :icon_bigg
