I got my dad's old genesis a few years ago and in the box for the 32X he has there was a powerbase converter. Whenever I have it on my genesis with a SMS game and power it on nothing happens. And yes I have a Genesis Model 1. Any suggestions on what to do?

Couldn't find anything about it there. I might open it up and take pictures but the screws are kinda corroded.

Wiki mentions of a dell-like construction (as in, very poor quality capacitors).
Wouldn't cost much to get replacement caps and solder them on

I should probably open it first and take pictures, see what anyone says on it.

    Too shakey/blurey to see properly.
Any dry joints or lose connections or stuff oozing out the capacitors?

I went to lukemorse1's channel on YT to see if he had any fixes for an SMS, I tried it out and now it's working, sometimes I get a white screen but I jsut have to reset. Sorry about wasting time. A mod can delete this now.

The fix was you take a little screwdriver and push the contacts down just a little until you've gotten all of them and then it should work. Here's the video that shows it.

This is not my video, just one I found. It works for the converter.

I wouldn't ever suggest doing that. A slip with the screwdriver could break a pin (which would recuire a replacement pin connector) *pain in the ass soldering* when you could just use the credit card and cloth trick on the pin connector

You don't do it that hard and you use like a jewelers screwdriver, phillips head, Plus I did it already and it worked.

Not jewellers. Jewellers is a bit too big. If you must do that method buy the phillips head screwdriver used for glasses. Much smaller and precise.

It works yeah but over time contacts can become rusty/corroded etc. Even a small bit of pressure can break the pin.

The glasses one would have only pushed in one half of the pin. The jewelers worked fine.
