So who else gets pissed out the power comapnies?

Got my electric bill the other day, fresh in the mail. The power is cut off the same day. Every time this happens they say "It'll be done within 24 hours" and don't do it until like 23 hours. By that time I've already left the house for the day(night time is hell in Florida sometimes, especially right now). And it basically makes half the food in my fridge turn to shit, everything but soda and water pretty much, and don't get me started on the freezer.

Sorry for the raging but I had to do it somewhere. So anything similar happen to anyone else?

Does the US have an automated way of processing bills? (similar to Direct Debit in the UK)

Yes, but I was off auto-pay(for reasons I'm not going to disclose). The pproblem is the bill was delivered the same day as cut off, which is bull shit.

I had a couple of letters lately that they would work on de wires in the street, it took them 5 times half a day to fix it, and for me 5x food going to waste + a broken external HDD which failed after one that came unannounced.
A month later I got a letter from the elec. company with apologies and a 30 bucks refund.. pfff

Here where I live, you will get at least 3 reminders before they go and cut your power off.

Same goes for phone and TV.

I know Phoenix has two power companies one that'll shut off your power if not paid on the due an another where you have to buy smart cards for, I actually like the second the one cause you get a meter telling you when you need to refill the card which you can do at supermarket in the Phoenix area, cool isn't it.

if the food is actually ruined order that they pay it.

cutting it off without notification ( numerous letters) is illegal.

Illegal in the UK or USA, or both? I had a good bit of food that had to be tossed, ice cream gone most definately. 2 damn tubs of it too, both mostly full. Leftovers and such. Few others that need refrigeration. Filled a mostly empty bin with it all.

They do it on purpose it seems, punishment if you will. See what they do is put a little note on the gate, usually with billing information and such, but not this time, just the thing they put on, nothing specific of the home, or account. And it was on the same day that the bill arrived, which is what really pissed me off. What do they expect me to wait at the mailbox until I get the bill then pay it immediatley? I'm not even home when mail comes.
