The game called Gouketuji Ichizoku or Power Instinct for MD has this weird issue that the screen will fricker with strip color bars. Never have this issue on hundreds other games before. Any one know how to fix it? My Set up: JPN MD1 with 50Hz Pal /60Hz NTSC switch (I have tried both mode). The ROM File: JPN NTSC (!) / JPN NTSC (h1) / JPN NTSC (h2) , all appear to have the same color bar frickering issue.
What do you exactly mean by "fricker" ? I don't think it's an Everdrive issue: all Mega Drive games have colored borders around the active screen area, which, depending on TV setup (overscan), can be more or less visible. The thing is that the border color changes as the game program changes the background color palette. Most games use a fixed black (or colored, for example sky blue in Sonic) border so you won't notice anything special. However, some others might change the background color during gameplay for various reasons and it will result in the border color changing for a few frames.
I know about over-scan and that's not it. There are color bars that constantly change color across the whole screen. I'll take the picture of it tonight.
The rom is already in .bin format. Which mechine are you using by the way? Could it be that this issue only present in JPN MD1?
it could be cart fault only if hard reset option disabled, in this case hardware could be not in same state as after power on
Hi , thanks to you guys for trying to help me find the solution. I'd like to report that the issue still present with or without hard reset option disabled (or enable). Here's the pictures of the color bars I'm talking about.
Seems like Color RAM got corrupted. Possibilities are: - corrupted ROM (bad dump labelled as good one or ROM not flashed correctly in Everdrive) - background color or Color RAM not initialized properly by the game which keep previous values setup by Everdrive (Hard Reset should have fixed that) - faulty MD hardware (would affect other games though) My guess is that the Hard Reset function is not working for you because you have a console without TMSS (license screen) so Color RAM is not reinitialized by a MD BIOS after Everdrive OS resets to game. Is that the case ?
Not sure about that but my everdrive is a very early model. I bought it back at early 90s but it will shows "lisence by SEGA" before everdrive menu. Althought with further inspect , it appears that the only TWO SCREEN that have color bars are the those ones in the pictures (title screen and the monk dude's stage). The rest of the game seem to display correctly. Which makes it even more confusing as to where the problem is.
Some Megadrives have lose AV sockets especially mine which when become loosened the pictures have red, blue and green all over them. If you have one of those stereo scart leads that plug into the headphone and AV socket every time you switch it on you will have to put your MD cable back in fully to get the full colour back due to the lose socket. Hope that helps. You need the full RGB output to be able to get a full colour without problems picture from it and to do that it must be plugged into the AV socket stablely.
