I have a Neo Geo AES 3-4 Model (Low serial range) and the underside says use PRO-POW PSU, from what I understand that is a 5V PSU. Where as the other PSUs used (POW3 etc) are 9-10V. My Neo Geo came with a Sega 9V PSU, and its been working fine. Is this the correct Supply rating or do I need to drop it to 5V. Would I be able to test with a normal 5V PSUto check if its correct before I buy a proper one.
If it works fine with the 9V PSU then that's what you should use. If you tried a 5V PSU on a 9V system it wouldn't even work.
Thanks for the reply, after more investigation, I read that a 5v neogeo will fry if used with a 9v PSU, but a 9v neogeo used on a 5v psu will not work as you have stated above my neogeo on the other hand works with a 9v PSU (sega) and a centre negative 5v PSU aswell so now im real worried and confused
Some early AES were fitted with a switching regulator in order to use the new 9V supplies, or someone could have just swapped case.
my AES does have a switching regulator. without looking at it again from what I remember its a 5 pin regulator either a 2575 or 2576, I cant confirm without looking, although regardless would it be better to use what is the correct PSU for it
