Two years ago, I bought a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet, which I used to create a disk image for an online forum. After a few months, I decided to delete the file from both my PC and the floppy I had transferred it to since I didn't think I'd need them anymore. That was a stupid decision to make, because eventually, while I was testing out some key commands on my Powerbook, I entered the "boot from CD" command. This shouldn't have had any ill effects on the laptop, but I soon discovered that the poor Mac could no longer recognize its hard drive, rendering the last good copy of my floppy disk image inaccessible. I guess I should mention that one of the floppies I used actually has another copy of the file, but it was accidentally created in the read-only compressed format. Is there any way to convert this file to a normal read-only version? In addition, I'm wondering if there's any way to fix my Powerbook without disassembling it.

NVM, it's a useless POS laptop, and if I really wanted to get it fixed, I probably would've done it sooner. Maybe I'll sell it for parts on eBay or just throw it out entirely.

Sorry man, I know some (edit: a little bit - very very little) stuff about current gen Mac laptops, but nothing as far back as a Powerbook.
I know what my so-called "Mac Expert" coworkers would tell you to do = Reset the PRAM and reimage! Morons.

On a more serious note - maybe booting to a USB CD Rom would be helpful If the onboard CDRom is shot? You might be able to get into Disk First Aid and fix a couple things?

Doh - 2nd edit... Disregard. That won't work. I started reading this thread.... https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1942425?start=0&tstart=0
