hi whats up :encouragement: i thought i would start a Preservation thread as i am interested in the best way to store my stuff. (please feel free to let me know how you keep your games) over the last few years i have been collecting many new games.some are (new sealed) and some are new but not sealed like mega drive ect. i would like my mega drive games to be dust free.so i thought about putting them in plastic bags should i get acid free plastic bags or dose it not matter..
There's no secret, you'd store them in exactly the same manner as you store comic books - in acid free bags in a cool, dark, not too damp environment.
i think using Universal Book Ends is a good idea for keeping you super famicom games upright (4 games per pair)
I like to keep my loose Genesis carts in a Audio cassette rack. The carts have the same size as a cassette box. +1 to Sega for using standard size. For long term storage of console and computer parts, i wrap any electronics in ESD protective bags, then put the stuff in lidded plastic containers with silica gel baggies.
If you care about the preservation of the shrink wrap (i.e. don't want it getting dusty/stained/scratched), then you can bag them if you like. Storage conditions should be the same no matter what.
i prefer not to mess with my md games but should i bag up the manuals i think its best to leave them alone.
these look pretty good for keeping your dear super famicom in.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-SN...2971?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item3cc4a36f5b
A few questions protection for Jewel cases dose anyone know if i can buy such a thing for my super Expensive cd games and what about cd wipes what's the best thing i can use to clean my cd's if needed.
All my carts are in UGCs (Universal Game Cases) and each has a silica gel packet inside. Looks good on a shelf, easy to locate and access games, and the slica packet means that I don't have to worry about any moisture-related issues.
I too did this for storage/ short term preservation. But for long term the ziplock bags may be acidic and cause damage to labels etc. Put carts in Ziplock bags (they're cheap in bulk for offname brands), put them inside black refuse bags and then put them inside totes, heavy water might make it into the totes, and if any makes it through the knots in the black refuse bags they aren't getting inside the ziplock bags.
I think you are correct now.. i will just keep them in acid free bags but its hard to find bags that are the correct size you don't want to pack them in too tight.i prefer to use larger bags and then i wrap it around the box and stick it down with a bit of tape.
