I got some 360 preview/review discs recently. I'll be archiving them for a while until I got the time to hunt down the necessary equipment to test them. AFAIK none of these has been ripped before and so I would like to make backups of them (all the discs are originals). I already have had a big title PS3 preview game disc fail on me so I don't want that to happen. What options to I have to RIP them? The bluray drive in my comp cannot recognize the media. From what I can gather there is the possibility to buy a 360 (they are practically free now) used and just gut it for the dvd drive, hook it up to the computer and rip from there. I also just bought a soft modded 360, although I don't know if its a JTAG or RHG version or whatnot. Any tips would be great!

One would assume you could put rip the disk via the modded retail?
IDK never had a modded retail but I think you can access whats in the disc drive from FTP? or maybe use xexmenu to copy the files to USB?

It doesn't have xexmenu (afaik, just turned it on once). I boot up into what looks like standard dashboard. I can use burned games on it though as the guy I bought it from only had copies.

Take a picture of the disc. If it's a pressed disc you'd need to use a retail modded system, or if it's just a normal disc that's burned you can use PowerISO (or 360 backup creator).

If you claim your console is softmodded and it came with burned games that sounds like it's flashed. Best way to test if it's hardmodded (JTAG/RGH) is to boot it up with eject. If you get a screen with XELL RELOADED on it, it's hardmodded. If it boots into the regular dashboard, it has a retail NAND which means you can only use it as a standard console.

What you could do is get a phat BenQ or LiteOn drive (BenQ would be easier) and then use your Xbox 360 to power it and hook it up to your PC to flash the drive. Once you have it hooked up and reading properly in a program like JungleFlasher you can backup the firmware on the drive and then reflash it with a 0800 firmware. Once it's flashed it will read as a PC DVD-ROM drive, from there you can put the games in and use Xbox Backup Creator to rip them.

Although before stepping through all that mess - As they're review and test discs try to put one in your normal DVD drive and see if you could just copy/paste the game files. As those discs are intended to work on Test/Dev consoles they don't need to be burned to specification like normal retail games do, pretty sure you could just drop the files onto the disc and burn away as long as the game is signed to run on a Dev/Test console.

When booting up with reset button it boots into the standard (I would presume) dashboard. Checking System Info it says it is on Dashboard 2.0.15574.0. So no way to get xexmenu on this console? What does it take to mod it?

That Megaman one is just a burned disc. it's not pressed.

You can rip it with a DVD drive. Use PowerISO or maybe even ISOBuster. DVDisaster is another option as well, but that disc is absolutely readable by a PC drive.
