I have accumulated a stack of what is yet to be preserved xbox discs and was wondering on the best and most accurate preservation method. Some of the discs are burned dvds with either pressed, printed or handwritten info on them. Clearly these are just DVD-Rs. Do they have some sort of weird file system or copy protection that require any particular method? I also have pressed discs. Would same method apply to them? Are the content encrypted (like PS3)? Can I dump debug discs on a modded retail, just not run them?
This is how redump does it: http://forum.redump.org/topic/6073/xbox-1-360-dumping-instructions/ But considering it's just a DVD-R you can probably simply make an ISO out of it.
Original Xbox. You could make an ISO. If you have an Xbox debug kit, it may be possible to copy the files to a Windows XP machine running Xbox Neighbourhood. I can't quite remember if you can do that or not, but I'm pretty sure that's what I did to dump the Metal Gear Solid 2 pressed silver I had. @Borman, please confirm?
Ah, I figured. If his console was soft modded, could he not FTP to the console and copy the content that way?
For OG XBOX debug copies on DVD-R, you can just make a 1:1 image by using IMGburn on a Windows computer. They have no copy protection nor encryption. Pressed (debug) discs are another story, to image these you can either go the Neighborhood route and copy them on the fly as your XBOX reads them or if you want a 1:1 image of the disc you'll need to resort to a modified DVD drive (KREON DRIVE) for your PC. In case of a modified XBOX, you can use a dashboard with FTP functionality to obtain its content.
