Price Check: Mr. Backup Z64 and Bung GB Xchanger

I have a modified Mr. Backup Z64 V3 here.
It uses the hacked FW 2.20 to use CF Cards.
It works without problems.

What can I ask for it in the days of Everdrives?

I sold my Z64 a year ago for $200 (V3, which is slightly less desirable than V2). I included an HDD mod I had done. Of all the N64 copiers, the Z64 is the best one imo.

 

Your pictures should have validation per the rules... but at least you're providing pictures!

You are correct in thinking the old devices have taken a price hit now, with the EverDrive. Z64 is still quite nice, though. Although the CD machines looked cool!

This thread from a few years back suggests the Game Boy stuff wasn't that expensive back then.

 

Would including the packaging with a Z64 (HW3) make a difference (i.e. is there a market of copier collectors)? I'm thinking about maybe switching to an everdrive since while the Z64 is nice, it's quite bulky and needs a separate power supply.

 

What follows is just my personal opinion and not based on any research:

The original box should make a difference. I owned about five Z64's back in the day but in all that time I only came across one or two boxes in good condition. I was basicly up-trading until I had a V2 with an undamaged warranty sticker complete in box with all the paper work. Such a CIB mint Z64 V2 should be around $300-$400. Which is what I sold it for if I remember correctly.

Also I think a modded Z64 is less desirable than a stock one for a collector. Also while the V2 was highly sought after while people actually still played games with them, nowadays with all those way better flashcarts I think the difference in price between a V2 and V3 will get smaller because sitting on the shelf and just be played once in a while there will be no difference between a V2 and a V3 anymore.

However I personally would never pay more than about $100 for a V3, most people seem to have forgotten what a unreliable piece of shit the V3 was compared to a V2 even with all the stability fixes when you actually depended on it playing a game from start to finish.

I would price them like this:

V1 $50
V3 $100
V3 boxed $150
V2 $200
V2 boxed $250
V2 boxed in mint condition $350

With time the price should rise again. Also if you live in the EU feel free to convert $ to € 1:1 for a valid price estimate in €.

 

Once I modded my V3, I found it to be pretty much it's pretty much on par with a V2. I played a whole Zelda Majoras Mask start to finish on it. The only reason I sold it was because I found a good deal on a V2 boxed. I'm also comfortable in saying a V3 Z64 is way more reliable than a CD64 or a V64.

The above prices are a little high in some cases, IMHO. A V2 just sold for $200, boxed. It was running v2.2 and had the original ZIP drive, an ORB drive and an SD reader fitted.

Like I said, EverDrive has affected the prices. Sometimes you see them sell for more, but the demand isn't there so much nowadays. Before EverDrive, it was the most sought-after copying device for N64, certainly.
