I'm not really sure where this goes. I do not yet want to buy one, so WTB is not the right area.
Let me give you a bit of background info. The Japanese DS has "Silent turn off". When you push the power button to turn the DS off, the screens just go black.
On the US model, there is this loud POP noise when the system is turned off.

I bought one in 2006 for 150 USD new. It was graphite black. Awesome looking console. However, it broke in 2007. NOA repaired it for me, but they replaced the main board in it. This meant that my DS now made the POP noise that I hate so much.

    Purpose of this ramble:
Anyway, I was wondering how much a used or new Japanese DS phat would cost. I'm talking the 2004 model, not the Lite.
It can be Graphite, White, Turquoise or even Pink. I really don't want Pink, though.
Are there any online stores that still sell them? Are there people here that are willing to sell theirs?

    Thanks.

There's a price check thread in the marketplace. I think you're supposed to PM one of the mods and they will make a post for you.

Hmm... My 2004 Japanese DS I got right on release does make the POP noise though.

Yeah but those are more for sellers trying to figure out the value of their item before posting it for sell. Not so much someone trying to find out where he can find something and at the best price.

So only the phat DS make the POP noise? I have never heard it from a DS Lite or a DSi.

I can't understand why by gods name someone wants to get a pre-lite DS?

Maybe they want something that won't have the hinges crack and break like a melting popsicle, or don't want ugly yellowed screens, or the tiny volume of the speakers. Even the Over-saturated ,overly bright screens, and having the L and R buttons not work after having a lite after a period of time.

I've had a Phat since launch and it's held up like a champ with none of the issues the 2 Lite's i've had have had.

I'm with Tatsujin. Can't imagine anyone preferring an original model. It sounds more like you've beaten the shit out of your Lites, to be honest - my answer to that would be, rather than go for inferior, outdated hardware, just don't beat the shit out of your Lites.

I didn't beat the shit out of it.
    Completely normal use.

And the first one happened like that almost straight out of the box at launch (Hinges cracked easily and a ton of them had yellowed bottom screens, every lite has shitty speakers compared to the Phat). The second one a few years later.

My brother's Special Edition Zelda Lite has has the same problems. So that's a total of 3.

The lite sucks in my experience Period.
Waste of money. Now from what i've played of the XL and the Dsi those are much better than the Lite.

If we're going by anecdotal evidence I can't think of any friends who've had either variety DS break on them; generally, I don't think either have a high failure rate. Anyway you having bad habits/luck says nothing about the difference in quality between their screens, which is vast and the main reason to pick the lite over the phat.

Sorry, but if you can't hear and see the difference mentioned by Vosse inbetween NDS and NDSL then you have serious problems. Not mentioned that quick search in Google prove all these known differences and problems.
I had about 30 NDS and NDSL and most of the NDSL had some problems either with the plastic or the screen (yellow/lower contrast on one screen, dead pixels etc.) and I never see any of these problems on NDS.

And I'm the one with the problem?

Unless you were running a repair shop or similar, in which case, yes, you're going to see similar problems repeat themselves - that still doesn't mean those problems are universal. Most DS Lites don't have fucked screens, be serious.

Apparently I haven't been clear enough. If they're both working correctly, which is not difficult or unlikely, a Lite is better than a Phat. I don't give a shit what a broken DS Lite looks like, that's none of my concern.

EDIT: done a bit of googling and it seems like ~2007 there were some batches of DS Lites that had a yellowish tint to the TFT. There aren't really many comments about it so either it wasn't a big deal or it didn't affect that many. Fair play either way though, that's shitty.

When they were first launched, A LOT of DS Lites had screen issues. I don't think that is a problem these days, though. I had mine replaced and the Nintendo rep said they were replacing "many of them".

I'm an original DS fan myself as well. The system being bigger than the lite just fits in my hand better and I like the feel of the triggers a lot more. The only other model I would possibly want is the DSi XL. I loved the feel of it when I tried out a buddies, but I just find it so hard to drop the money for one with the 3DS coming in a few months.
