Pricing Information - US or Japanese N64

I'm thinking about buying a Japanese or US N64....I was wondering what kinda of Prices they are and if anyone is selling one.....or could get one to sell Thanks in advance Oh, and my only preference for condition is it works and ocmes with a power supply (I don't mind if there is there isn't a box or other cables...or if the thing is physically a wreck ^_^)

Note == This is not a deifinate thing, I'm just trying to get a price estimate ^_^

 

Software Etc. here regularly has them for $19.99. The systems are usually in reasonably good condition, and come with a controller, power supply, and RF switch (I think R/F switch, it might be a composite cable, but if you have a Super NES the hookup for that will work too.) EBGames here sells them for $15 (in what I presume is the same package) but they never have the units in.

Games are fairly cheap too - Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are both about $7, Super Mario 64 runs about $16, and I could check on anything else you're looking for.

if you live in us its definately a good idea to just go to a local game shop, you will get it under 20 dollars, i got mine complete in original box w/ extra controller and goldeneye for $20. if you live in europe its a different issue, dunno about prices there, but shipping would probably cost as much as the system itself.

 

See, thats the thing ^_^ I live in the UK and already have a PAL N64.....btu I can't get any imports to boot on it. Perfect Solution would be if someone could help me disable the region lockout on it (and yes, PAL N64s seem to have it....each of the import enabler carts I've tried don't work with it).

But as I hear it...US ones don't have lockout...they just have different tabs inside the machine.

All this effort just to play my Evangelion 64 ¬_¬

Nice Try But I am too much of a fanboy to ever give it up ^_^ Even if I never get to play it..... But at a last resort I am going on Holiday to Japan in June (w00t!) so I can try and dig out a Jap N64 while over there. Or at least I hope so ^_^

 

Yeh just plastic lugs inside where the jap/us carts slightly differ.......small chisel and some patience and you are away!

They pop up on fleabay occasionally but can vary on price....but not to much.

Best bet is if you see one try and hassle the seller up for a buy it now before the auction end..........I did this with a boxed US SNES with a couple of games and an adaptor for £20.

Auctions tend to finish a lot higher than this.

Works best if really low bids...on a 10 day auction with 2-3 days left. Sometimes you can tempt them into a deal! :smt023

 

The plastic tabs thing is true - they fit the notches in the bottom back of the US carts, and can be removed with a chisel, soldering iron, hot knife, etc, but make sure to not toally destroy the piece of plastic they are attached to, as this is what keeps the dust cover doors in place. I'd recommend opening the machine up to do this, but you CAN get away with doing it carefully through the cart slot if you have no Gamebit. You had better believe mine will be modded like this as soon as my Yuke Yuke! Troublemakers cart arrives. :smt040

As far as the PAL compatability, I'm thinking it is probably just a signal problem instead of a lockout, as I didn't think that there was anything but the tab issue as far as lockouts, but I could be wrong. It just seems odd that the NTSC systems only have an easily removed piece of plastic while the PAL one would have a lockout, but then, I'm fairly new to the N64...

 

I'm not too sure about the output thing....I've never had any problems runnign other import software on that TV.....and my Jap Saturn seems to run fine.....but if anyone has any details on how to help with my problem I would be most grateful ^_^

One day I swear I shall play this lovely game ^_^

I was thinking more along the lines of with the system - NTSC games in a PAL unit or something. Anyways, I couldn't get a thing out of that site as I don't read Danish or whatever it was in and couldn't find an online translator, but I imagine it reads something like this site: http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/n64con.htm.

I think it's really odd that your import carts don't boot the game - are they PAL carts, or just NTSC ones that fit? That might have something to do with it. Just to make sure it's not the cart, do you have any other games from the US or Japan that you could test? It might be something along the lines of the infamous second printing of Rez not booting on the US Dreamcasts or something...

 

The import adapter carts I've tried are all marked as "universal" and they all boot up okay...just when I use them to try and boot the actual game it all dies :Hangman:

And I don't have any other Import Games to try.....though I have had this cart tested in a Jap. N64 before (I sent it back to the company to get it tested....they sent me pics of it playing). Though I might be able to borrow a US copy of Lylat Wars and test that out...I might try using it on my friends N64 while I am at his house to get Lylat Wars....I *did* get my N64 way later into its life...so maybe its something to do with a later model of the console or something?

 

hmm, my PAL N64 plays my US games (Mario Kart and Wipeout 64) fine with one of those generic import carts with two cart slots :smt017

And now ontopic, i have a universal game adapter V4 which has a button on the back that alows me to activate the built in bios where i can select which region is being used.
The only thing it needs is a pal cart in the back it works fine with my copies of banjo kazoei and snowboard kids one is USA the other is JAP.

So maybe your converter is faulty ?

 

Thats what I thought at first....so I bought a second one....and it didn't work....so then I bought one of the ones from Lik-sang (Passport Adapter Version 3 or something)....and still no luck.

 

Because I have two PCs hooked up at the same time, with 2 keyboards but only one screen... I switch the screen around every now and then to change the music (which is played on PC #1 while I code on PC #2)... and there's not enough room on my desk to have 2 keyboards next to eachother at the same time :smt024

Anyway, sorry for dragging this topic into OT-ness... resume your merry way I'd say

 

Buy an import N64. Cost about £25 to £30 last time I checked, and their relatively easy to get hold of - check eBay or NTSC-UK forum.

Oh, and the convertors are well known for being an absolute bitch.
