Hi everyone, I am in the mist of buying back some of the pokemon classic games on the Gameboy and Gameboy advance, and I am aware of the bootlegs copies that are floating at ebay. The search for genuine carts on has taken quite a toll and often the pricing seems to be higher than expected. Thus I will seek fellow bros here to perhaps provide a basis pricing of such games. Below are the typical price range on ebay (genuine carts), the range depends greatly on the conditions of the cart (torn-good labels, flat battery which need to be replaced..etc) Pk Red/Blue - US $25-35 Pk Yellow - US $35-45 Pk Gold/Silver US $25-35 Pk Crystal - US $25-40 Pk sapphire/ruby - US $25-35 Pk emerald- US$27- 40 Pk Firered/Leftgreen US $25-35 Total minimum cost to have a complete collection is at US $287. Kindly advice if the above pricing are reasonable or overpriced.
If those prices are cart only, no. Those are some crazy high feebay reseller prices. Personally, I don't think pokemon games should be any higher then $15 and that should be mint label and working battery for the saves (Pro tip here though, fire red and leaf green do not use battery back up saves.) I'd recomend searching at local game shops for them if you have any. If you need help telling reals from fakes you can always PM as I consider myself an expert on the matter. ~Edit, shouldn't this be in the price check forum?
All of those prices are about right for cart only, believe it or not. Pokemon is extemely popular and if you were to walk into a game shop looking for old gameboy games the pokemons would be priced the highest simply out of demand.
Pokemon popular? YA DON'T SAY XD Anyway, I would strongly disagree with these prices. Pokemon games always sold very well (Minus the spin off games...) and are far from being any close to a rare game. When ever I walk into any game store I'd be shocked to ever see a gameboy(advance) game such as pokemon be priced at more then $10-15. If you wait and look around enough you'll find them fairly priced and rather quickly.
Games dont have to be rare in order to keep a high price in resell value. Final Fantasy 7 is a perfect example of this.
For cart only those are some high prices, here in Western US at least I can go to any of my local game stores and find the GBA games for $15 but you are not wrong as if you go to gamestop then you are looking at $40 for Emerald
Prepare to be shocked... the game shops in my area demand $40 for loose Pokemon cartridges, most of them are dirty and have price stickers on top of that. $60 for a Mario Kart 64 with crushed box, $199 for a boxed Super Nintendo (box looks like raped by North Korean soldiers). I got a Firered cartridge recently for a very decent price because it was part of a bundle. At first I thought I'd just sell it and buy a complete copy, but since prices are a total joke these days for Pokemon and I do not collect US software anyways, I guess I'll hold on to it. You probably know anyways, but don't buy counterfeits from our Asian friends just because they are cheap - the batteries won't last long and more often than not, you will never see the end of the game as your savestate will be erased.
It doesn't matter here, there are no specialty game shops in Freeland WA. Even then the short-lived place out of town is gone.
You should go to Pink Gorilla in Seattle. It's not too far from Freeland, is it? I went there when I was visiting Seattle a couple years ago. They have a really nice selection of import games, and they have some pretty decent prices too. Unfortunately, when I went there, it was 15 minutes until closing, so I didn't have much time to browse. I still had time to snag a few Japanese Saturn games and a Japanese Virtua Gun. Next time I'm in Seattle, I plan on spending a lot more time there.' Back to the OP, I think it's obscene what people are asking for Pokemon games now. As piplup10036 said, they're incredibly common. I used to have Pokemon Yellow, but I either lost it or sold it many years ago. I've looked everywhere for it, and apparently it's gone. I still have the box though! That's repulsive. I've seen some ridiculous prices, but never that bad. I'd have to check, but I think one of my local game stores has several Pokemon games for around $20-$25 each - which I still think is a lot for what it is, but sounds like a bargain compared to what you're saying.
I will have to agree with DeckardBR, that the pricing I have to pay for genuine pokemon games in Singapore. Either some flea market else I am subjected to ebay pricing, which personally I feel is overprice. There are too many fake pokemon games easily available in Singapore/Malaysia, finding genuine card is truly a pain and too costly.
Funny enough, Cash Converters had a bootleg for $40 right next to a genuine one for $40. So even stores price them crazy. If the OP is lucky enough, they might find them at garage sales for $10 each.
Honestly at a game store I've never seen a Pokemon game (loose, as getting any gameboy game in box is pretty uncommon) under $20.
The last Pokemon game I bought was for the DS, so I haven't kept up. Is it possible to bring a Pokemon over from the original Gameboy version the current?
Pokémon Crystal and Yellow for the Gameboy color era, seems to command the highest pricing at this moment. Not sure if the Europe version or US version pokemon games are cheaper or rarer.
That'd be fun to see, if the pirates put in actual effort. I'm not aware of bootleg Australian versions.
The oldest you can bring over is from the first set of GBA games (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen). You can bring those into HeartGold or SoulSilver after you beat it (with an original DS or Lite, with the GBA slot), then there's a way to get them into Black/White, and from there you can get them to Poke Transporter when it launches. Unfortunately my Level 100 Pikachu and Vaporean from Yellow can't come into X and Y.
