Problem dumping alpha disc

Have you tried Alcohol 120% or UltraISO?

Try CloneCD, it can copy -almost- everything.

 

Another recommendation for IsoBuster from me. The best tool to mess with the internals of disc images, by far, so I guess it'll help with dumping, too.

If it turns out not to be a copy protection scheme, there's also a tool that, if you come across parts of a disc that your drive can't read, lets you try to read them on whatever other drives you might have, until most or all of the blanks are filled in - I can't remember its name right now, but I'll keep looking.

Btw, what kind of media are we talking about, anyway? Some kind of CD, XBOX, 360, ...?

 

Yeah, I think it would be handy to know which format we're talking about. CDRWIN is ideal for Saturn.

 

Something just crossed my mind: I'm guessing we're talking DVD, right? More specifically, a double-layer DVD? Because "halts half way" made me think of the layer break which usually occurs somewhere halfway through, maybe that's what's causing the issue? No clue what exactly might be going wrong there or how to get around it, though...

As rso said, try with Isobuster.
If you get too many errors, you should try with another CD/DVD drive, I suggest a LG-GDR8164B...

 

try BlindWriter, works fine. i made a couple of isos with it.

IsoBuster is the Better!!! i have tryed 20-30 Software from Web, but (only) this Get me FULL file image .ISO without any ERRORs, can read aslo MAC disc on windows and make .ISO file! :dance:

 

CloneCD clone absolutely everything even disc that are difficult to be read for Isobuster, wich i agree is a good software 99% of the time.

 

Maybe your DVD drive has an problem reading the discs? I also use imgburn,
and it do a great job for me.
An old version of CloneCD is an good alternative.
I think you also test another alpha/beta with the drive/software before?
You try using another drive?

 

sounds protected. try burnatonce. latest is version 0.99.5. nifty software that.

 

Maybe the disc is damaged. Apache is another program used to rip ps2 discs. You could also try to extract each file from the disc then rebuild it.

 

I've had a similar problem recently and it got solved today. Same issue, actually - a preview copy of a PS2 game that would get 16% done ripping (regardless of application, I really don't think that's the issue here) and then hit bad sector after bad sector. Both my internal DVD drives failed in the same place, but the disc structure seemed intact. Wouldn't work in my chipped PS2.

Tried an external DVD writer today and it sailed through - no errors.

Burned a copy of the iso and it's now working fine on my PS2. So yeah, keep trying. I've heard that the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive is particularly good at recovering damaged discs so if you've got one of those around get the PC drivers for it and give it a shot.
