right so i download a video in avi format and when i went to play it the video wouldn't play. i have the k-lite mega codec pack and that gives me an big error whilst media player 11 just says it can't play the file. any help would be great guys.
Try Media Player Classic, it comes with K-Lite Codec Pack and woks with lots of video formats. Remember, WMP is Microsoft stuff, don't expect to have it working perfectly...
I use Media Payer Classic and have installed a huge ammount of diffrent codecs just in case i need them. *edit* this what the file format is encoded as MPEG4, 384x288 pixels, 25fps
It must be a codec issue, try to reinstall all codecs. If after that it still doesn't work maybe you have a corrupt package, it can be fixed downloading it again.
I have tried lots of different codecs, codec packs and software, an by far the best player/codec combination is Media Player Classic and ffdshow, with these I can play 99.9% of video files out there. And if I get one that doesnt play I use Gspot like barc0de mentioned
right i check to see what codecs i had and i seem to have the 2 posted above ffdshow and x246 and using gspot i know that i have the correct codecs installed. a re-install didn't work so i will uninstall tommorow try once more to install and check as much as i can so i get the most files installed and download again if doesn't work, thanks for your help guys and will report back tommorow
i have done that madhatter and got my avi file to play but now another file a WMV won't play in anything??

Still not worked out the problem and ImToo won't even convert as it just says fail when i tried to convert it to divx (avi) and mpeg?? i guess i'll end up downloading a diffrent version of the video.
Look for the WMP11 codec pack from Microsoft. I use that since I have a custom copy of Windows without Media Player.
thanks for all your help, i have finally got it working now. i uninstalled wmp11 and k-lite codec and after a restart i downloaded them again deleting the ones i had before and did a re-install, making sure wmp11 was installed first and did some other things and now it seems to be working.
Good, but remember, VLC Video Lan Player is the master of compatibility. It can play any format I have ever tried with no issues even though they're sometimes corrupt, it plays it no worries. And it's available for most OS's.
I used to use VLC for a bit but never liked it much, At the moment i find Media player classic great for Videos and WMP11 for music although i only like WMP11 becuase of its library function and unless i find a better media player with library functions as good then i'll stick with what i have
