I've got a curious problem with my Panasonic Q.

I've tried with composite and S-Video, and the problem is the same : in DVD mode, the image on TV is displayed in black and white... However, in GameCube mod, the image is displayed in colors.

I've checked ribbons cables inside the device, all it's ok.

Do you have an idea to fix it ? Thank you !

Yes, but my TVs accept NTSC signals. I can play with S-VIDEO and composite with my jap' N64 for example.
But here, I've got colors with my Q but only in GameCube mode, no in DVD mod.

And I've got the same problem with my USB capture device, so the problem come from the system itself.

    An idea ? :/

    It's a strange problem.
In DVD mode Q connected by 3-wire YPbPr? If that so that means a R-Y and B-Y are not present and you see just luminance B/W signal. It can't calculate and restore Green signal cause of that.
But if that remains even with S-video and CVBS it means color system mismatch. Like NTSC on unsupported PAL or PAL60, NTSC50. Strange. Oscilloscope might help. Maybe it's TV cause? I know N64J worked but it's worth to try another TV. Maybe You have any CVBS/S-Video to VGA/HDMI scaler or LVDS LCD converter board with such simple inputs? What they will show?

No, the Q can’t output an image with a component cable in DVD mode, only in Gamecube mode. it’s normal.
So in DVD Mode, I have to connect a composite cable or a S-Video. And both don’t output colors...

But I don’t know where the problem come from. Inside a Q, there is many boards, but outputs are common for DVD Mode and Gamecube mode. Very strange because the Gamecube mode display a colored image, but no in DVD mode.
And I don’t have scaler or converter board :/

    I'm not a pro but :
Is your PannyQ modded, and do you play DVDs of the same region of the pannyQ ?

My Q is non modded for region free DVD. I've got DVD with the correct region but nothing change. The "DVD VIDEO" logo when I turn on the Q in DVD mode is in black and white...

My lcd tv is multistandard but to see images with colors thru s-video or composite I have to change a flag in the setup menu of the TV

I will try but I don't see an option like this in my TV menu... And so it will mean that the signal is not the same between DVD mode and GameCube mode? Because in Gamecube mode, I have the color!

    EDIT :
I just did some tests by opening the Q and taking the video signal directly from the DVD motherboard: the Luma signal is good, but the Chroma signal is bad, that's why I did not have colors in DVD mode on the TV ...
I must find the fault on the motherboard of the DVD but I do not think I have the necessary skills ...

Gamecube and dvd logic board are separated. Video and analog audio are only connected on the same board for sharing the external connectors. You can have a gamecube fully functional and a dvd broken.
The logic board of the DVD drive is very similar to the one used in the Panasonic DVD RV-31 and RV-41. You can look online for the service manuals of those. I think, in theory, that would be possibile to have a component out for the DVD since the RV-31 and RV 41 have it.

Yes I know... Indeed, after several tests, it is a fault on the motherboard of the DVD ...
