i have been having problems downloading Yakuza 5 off of PSN, I bought it on xmas day and still haven't been able to play it. Both times i have attempted to download it ends up getting stuck at 60% (14/23GB). The yellow/orange HDD light still shows some sign of activity as does the router

Could it be a HDD problem?, i recently got an old 500gb HDD off a friend and i've noticed some games seem to freeze quite often now but those are games that i have on disc so i just attributed it to a dying disc drive, the other things i have downloaded off of PSN have worked just fine.

I have formatted, restored the file system/database etc and already had my internet capped once (20gb limit iirc, which just ironically got sorted out today)

I still have the old HDD but would really not like to have to start ALLL over again, anyone? :/

Test the hard drive with something like GSmartControl?

I would say that there is a 95% chance that the HDD is faulty. Had a similar problem, but mine was worse, it would take a very long time to even get into the XMB.

    Adapters are cheap - LINK

I would just say to get a brand new HDD, they are not expensive, so you are not losing much.

Yeah, it was the HDD. i swapped it out with the one that came with it and it got to 100% in a day. What a waste of a month, but thanks to all for the help

Strange that other games off of PSN were working just fine and disc based installs were crashing the system. I thought it was the blu-ray drive because it takes a while for it to read discs and have already gone through about 4 PS3's because of bad disc drives (i love you sony, but man is the disc drive a POS in all the versions of the PS3)
