Problem with Supergrafx (not displaying SG generated sprites)

I'm just going to copy and paste the message that I wrote at pc engine fx forum.

So I just received my Supergrafx console today, and I'm having some issues with it. From what I can tell, it's not displaying any graphics generated by either the SG side of the PCE side. They'll display as white or brown boxes. Like in Ghouls and Ghosts it seems to be the chests that don't display as well as the death explosion of the enemies. Battle Ace the enemies turn into large white boxes once they zoom in to a certain point. Mado Granzort doesn't display the "Press Run" and Husdon copyright on the main screen. Issue happens on both actual SG cards and a Turbo Everdrive.

I'm more than competent with a soldering iron and components, so if anyone knows what may be causing it I could definitely try and take care of it. I really don't want to have to return it because I got a fair price, and I would hate to eat the EMS shipping costs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I hope this was the correct forum to post in. It didn't specifically mention Supergrafx, but I thought it fit here better than the SG forum.

How do PC engine games run? Do they show any issues or is it only with SGX games?

I'm certainly no expert, but sounds to me like it could be an issue with the RAM chips. Do you have a multimeter to test for continuity? Check around the four HSRM20256LM12 chips for broken traces.

 

PC engine games work perfectly.

I've already checked the board for any bad traces, and haven't found anything out of the ordinary. I'll take another look, but visually everything looks fine. I'll post up some shots of the board in a bit to see if anything looks off to anyone on here.

Yes its now working perfectly. There was a corroded trace that I repaired and that was it. Its now rgb modded and looking great

A bad trace, just as I thought. Good to hear you got it fixed.
Do you have a Super CD-ROM unit or RAU-30 + briefcase? Or maybe another RGB-modded PCE setup? PCE CD games deserve that RGB treatment as much as SGX, if not more

 

Of course. I've got an rgb duo r as well as an rgb tg-16. Eventually I'll have a briefcase setup, but for now I'm plenty covered for NEC stuff.
