For about a week now Ive had a problem with both FireFox and Chrome. They load certain web pages slowly and neither will open the google app menu on the main google search page. Any ideas? OS is Windows 10
Clear cache Clear cookies Disable add-ons Disable anti-virus / firewall Any better? Try running ccleaner. If the above don't work, run Malwarebytes Anti Malware. Oh, and check for nasties with HijackThis, posting the log at hijackthis.de (will compare to their db and explain everything)
Are you running an insiders build of W10? There was a bug with connecting to some sites but has been fixed with later builds. Try a different browser and if it still does it perhaps it's a dns hijack/malware.
All great ideas and suggestions but I've done most of that which is why I'm baffled. It started after installing a Nvidia GeForce TXi7 in to the machine. I've cleared the cache, cookies, Disable address in both Chrome and Firefox With no change. Disable anti-virus / firewall - didn't do this but cat see that changing anything as they haven't been touched. Ran spybot to search for nasties and even a virus scan however all came up clean and didn't change anything. I'm not running any insider program either so that rules out that potential issue. I'll give hijackthis.de a look to see if something is hiding.
What extensions do you have? Any ad blocking? They can cause issues with Google pop-up settings sometimes
no, nothing. I've added nothing to the PC except the graphics card. No add blockers or anything. It's really strange and effect both Firefox and Chrome.
Problem fixed. Even though I'd done a full virus scan and used spybot to check for malware I decided to give Malwarebytes Anti Malware a go as Retro recommended. It found over 200 entries!! Once all were cleaned out everything worked as it should. I guess it was just a coincidence that I had installed my graphics card the same day the PC became infected. So glad that's solved now. Thanks to all who offered help.
Spybot is very old.. Would explain your missed scans. Also I'd recommend having a script blocker and adblocker. Sometimes when you're just searching google images you can get malware. Script blocker will stop anything you haven't been on before. If you use a free antivirus, stick to avast.
I also recommend installing SpywareBlaster and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit as well as extra protection layers. On Firefox, i recommend installing NoScript, uBlock Origin and Privacy Settings And tweak it a little bit: https://malwaretips.com/threads/how...rity-for-maximum-protection-2016-guide.59880/
Huh. Glad you figured it out. A tad amazed that people still manage to get spyware/adware in 2017. Last time I had any of that was about ten years ago..
