I've had my Toshiba DVD player since May of 1999...it's never failled to read a single disc...I only use it in the bedroom now but it's still a great piece of equip...Pioneer has been good to me as well.
Heck, LIFETEC (Aldi's electronic's brand) has even proven to be pretty reliable, and it's dirt cheap :smt042
My Sony Walkman and MD player work great (after I 'broke in' the MD player's POS dial). My PS2 started doing some wierd drive bay thing about a year ago, when I sold it (the guy I sold it to hasn't had any problems though, go figure). Sony is fine for headphones/portable CD players as far as I know, but I wouldn't buy anything expensive from them. I also have a Toshiba laptop, and it's probably broken three times now. It's currently lying disassembled in my brothers apartment (like it has been for the past year). I really don't care if I ever get it back.
well, its because my walkman is made only by sony... ;-) :smt043 :smt043 , me too :smt043 i never read ps1 or movie cds/dvd on it , i always press the reset button for 5 sec. before switching the main power control of , i always switch my ps2 off (after pushing the reset button for 5sec.) before changing games, try to keep the humidity low and never change the advanced options in the bios. my old ps2 died twice , just like yours, for no reasons...if i need a third one , i think ill install it in a controlled room and we could only enter it by wearing a mask , special boots and gloves.... :smt043
OK, is there anyone who bought an original first revision PS2 that hasn't died yet? My two friends who got them when the day they came out (in Europe) are both on their second ones. One of them went super weird - you'd turn it on, press the eject button and the tray would shoot out and it would continues to make a loud buzzing noise (as if it was trying to push out the tray even more), then you'd attempt to put a game in and the tray would shoot back in, the disc would start spinning super fast (it sounded like how really cheap 48x CD-ROM drives sound), and then it would come up with the good ol' Disc Read Error. Maybe it's from him playing his dodgy Singapore pirate copy of The End of Evangelion (with hilarious English subtitles) on it too much. "Oh, that silly guy Shiguji"
Well, it appears that most of the SCPH-10000 PS2's are dead already :smt030 (or so I've read on the website of that new PS2 programmable modchip)
Which one's that, then? The original NTSC-J one? The first PAL ones I've seen are the SCPH-30003, and I'll say they're pretty much in the same state of deadness. And that's why I waited till christmas 2002 to get my PS2. Well, that and Vice City :-D
