I'm assuming it would be ok to talk about these two IDE's for the ps2? I would assume at this point it is mostly abandonware? I'm interested in knowing the major differences in these two IDE's for PS2 development on windows? I'm going to try to hunt one of the two down, but i'm unsure of which one to attempt to obtain? There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information, but from what i can tell these are just IDE's for windows (normal ps2 sdk would run on linux). Do these contain proprietary libraries or other useful programming aids, or are they strictly just an IDE? One of my biggest questions is if they do contain proprietary libraries, do these libraries run cross platform (ProDG for GameCube?) making porting code much easier? I seem to hear a lot more about ProDG than i do CodeWarrior.
ProDG is a centralized system for testing and debugging (from what I've used). CodeWarrior is for compiling code...why are you trying to use either one? Just use the open source toolchain. They won't make it possible to compile your PS2 code for GC, that'd require porting and such.
i guess what i would like to know is why use any tool chain other than the official sdk? Other than legality and having to use red hat to compile?
thats about the only reason. sometimes there is a limitation in the 3rd party toolchains. but for ps2 just use whatever you ewant
From what i have so far, ProDG is just an IDE & compiler for the official SDK, it also supposedly comes with a standalone debugger as well as integrates with Visual Studio. I cant seem to find any information for CodeWarrior. What i want to verify is if the libraries are any different from the original SDK, or if ProDG is just allowing the use of the official SDK in a windows environment.
If you want to see what ProDG is message me. I have it for the PS3 and a VS2010 setup. You can see what it does.
I've found no copy of CodeWarrior PS2 so far- if any of you have any idea where one might find it.... ;D
