Prog Rock is y favorite music genre by far... I love the fact that the songs are carefully orchestrated, and heavily relying on the music to convey emotions and no so much on the lyrics. Lyrically, what I like most is that many times the songs tell a story, or they are very much like poems, giving the listener the possibility to interpret whatever he or she wants. My favorite band is of course, Pink Floyd. However, I also like King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull and some other artists.
My favorite 2 are Crimson and The Mars Volta. I listen to a lot of other bands too, like Yes, Rush, Tull(Went to see them recently), etc.
Anyone who likes prog rock needs to listen to dream theater. The drummer may be the best drummer ever and everyone else in the band is at the top of the hill as far as talent goes.
love it. pink floyd, in the court of the crimson king from king crimson... Also look around for ginkyusou (sp) from motoi sakuraba, the great videogames music composer... actually almost all his soundtracks are dtrongly progressive rock... i LOVE the Valkyrie profile: silmeria ARRANGE disc! It's a MASTERPIECE of music.
Yes and The Flower Kings. I could add some prog metal bands like Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Andromeda, etc.
Dream Theater and Coheed and Cambria. What really sold me on Coheed and Cambria was their "The Trooper" cover. Its really good. Also, for a single prog album by a band thats not really known for being progressive metal, Metallica's ..And Justice For All.
I'm not that much into Prog Rock but I listen to Prog Metal a lot, Dream Theater (mostly their early stuff), Symphony X and Circus Maximus are some of my favourites. Most of Dream Theater's side projects like Liquid Tension Experiment and Jordan Rudess' solo works are great too.
