Presented here is a fully functional prototype 1st Party Sega Dreamcast Memory Unit. More information and pictures here: http://forums.segakatana.com/viewtopic.php?t=283 Information is courtesy of samael64. Thanks!
That looks a lot like the official Sega 4x memory unit. That card had four individual memory banks which you switched via the button, which is what I presume this proto does as well.
i think the button switches between the memory banks 1-4, as seen on later 3rd party memory units! nice pic mark! //Edit: grrrr SuperGrafx!!! had to be seconds
Indeed. But the PCB inside looks pretty much identical to what you'd find in a shipping VMU, so this must have been a proto that was pretty far along in development except for the outside casing.
ok. I've actually never had a DC memory card in my possession and it was a bit under a year a go that I actually got a DC for the first time. So I can't really call myself a DC expert.
that definetely looks like official 4mb Dreamcast memory card, switch is responsible for switching between each mb of data(there are four naturally).
Always nice to see people contribute. Thankjs for sharing. I've got to get my hands on some proto stuff.
