Prototype/Beta Sanyo TRY 3DO

Hi I am curious as to whether I have something valuable on my hands or just a regular console.

I purchased this awhile back with a dead drive and it ended up being a bad drive ribbon cable (very common failure in the Sanyo and Goldstar 3DO consoles). I was able to source some new cables and replaced it and the console works fine now.

The console is missing some screws for the top cover and cd drive shell but nothing is loose or rattling.

The bottom of the unit has a sticker that leads me to believe it is a proto console. However, I looked up a youtube video of a retail console booting and this looks to have the same startup animations.

 

Sanyo IMP-21J TRY 3DO Interactive Multiplayer (Japan only) – Released in October 10, 1994, this model has the pickup head on the tray (resembling a laptop optical drive); but was made in medium quantities before it was discontinued.

That was from the 3DO wiki, so it's a few weeks before official release.
