Several software databases exist, but I have never seen one that catalogs a variety of hardware brands. For whatever reason people that put up such a site tend to be loyal to one company. Is there a TCRF for consoles? I'd love to click on a console name, and get pictures for all the gadgets it spawned.
There is this website for Nintendo and Sony retail hardware: http://maru-chang.com/hard/english.htm You can find a list of Dreamcast & accessories model numbers in a thread here on the forums somewhere, and for Sony PS1 and PS2 development hardware you can get this file: http://lorezan.free.fr/ps2/DTL_Archive_rev.4.xls
The first link answered some questions I've had about a few codenames. CTR is not there and it still bugs me. It's probably got the word "nitro" in it. The Wii U uses WUP, that "P" could just be product. Some Wii U developer products have CAT-DEV. Project Cafe was the prototype name, but that "T" eludes me.
This site has reliable hardware sections for consoles before the 8th generation (not all but still useful): http://www.gamevortex.com/
