Seen those on Ebay once or twice. Not sure that 'prototype' is an entirely accurate description. Lovely item though. There's a thread or two on them in this forum somewhere.

I could be mistaken but I believe there are actually two versions of the pce-jamma setup. One as in that thread by United Amusements, another by some Euro company (French iirc). That could well be me misremembering though, and the second one I've seen may just have been homemade.

There's a more common kind of these Jamma-conversions that looks selfbuilt but was definitely made by a company since they all look the same. That version's PCE still has the (top) case of the console and you see it more frequently, usually selling for 200-300$.

Hey guys the PCEngine Jamma unit is mine, I just had my account cleared to post here so I wanted to chime in and thank everyone for taking a look at this.

I am completely clueless how to even begin to put a price on this thing and while my current life situation demands I must sell it I would also like to see this go to good hands. How do you guys normally get an idea of prices for these rare, obscure and seldom seen items?

I have seen some of the chinese and south american PCEngine to Jamma units before, however this particular one being licensed makes it even a little trickier to find information about... considering it was never pushed into full production.

Any information you guys have would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

So you made an account and first post disregard the forum rules. Not a good start.

Go list it on ebay we're not here to do pricecheck for you.

All this is is a conversion. They've been on ebay many times and sell for $175-250.

I had one of these and still have the marquee. It's just a 3rd party conversion
    of a pc engine.

Thanks for re-opening this thread man and sorry for not paying closer attention to the rules here. Albeit unknowingly, I am sorry.

So, the motherboard you had with yours was manufactured by United Amusements like the one that I posted pics of over at N-G.com? Did it have any games with it and if so, were they the standard Hucards or like the longer Keith Courage one on the NEC PCB like I posted pics of?

If this was licensed by NEC then that wouldnt make it a 3rd party conversion would it?

Interesting to hear about more of these units....

Did you sell yours then and just keep the marquee? The only 2 examples that I've found of these being sold were on ebay, from sellers who were most likely ex-arcade operators who did not know exactly what they had.

    Here is a link with pictures if anyone is curious to see;

I'm glad we can have this discussion. I was perhaps a bit jaded.

Welcome to the site. I am glad you are here.

I got mine from an arcade in california where it had been on test.

Conversions of the pc engine popped up in asia, and from what I was told
they tried to legitimize the concept but could never agree to terms.

The most valuable part would be the marquee and art, as I have never seen more.

The prototype board is very unusual, as the game was final in Japan at the time.
It would seem that someone made an eprom and perhaps play tested it in
    the arcade to gauge reaction.

You can find the converted pce every once in a while, usually an asian converson.

Most likely they realized they would create a system far more expensive than the asian
converted consoles and no one would buy it.

MAME has some info about this board in which they say that NEC pulled funding for the project before mass production took place. I think NEC got cold feet when they realized that arcade ops could just change games with standard HuCards without NEC getting any profit. Back in the early 90s arcade games would sell for big bucks to operators. All of the other console-based arcade boards of the era (Playchoice, VS, Mega Play, Mega Tech, Super System, Neo Geo) had physically different game cartridges than the home versions.

Exactly, why pay $$ for a proprietary system when a chinese conversion
is 1/2 the cost and plays any games.

Need to dig up that article then. Explains is as well as can be expected given
we have no official info. Perhaps we can find the engineer who designed the board?

Some have mentioned 3rd party or chinese knock off ones available

Are any of these for sale anywhere today? An interface unit or something?
