Came across this in my collection the other day while organising some things. I've known I had this for a while, and I've known something was off about it, but I didn't bother to actually look at it until today. As you can see, the cart has EPROMs, and my brief Google digging indicates it is a development board, so... what do I have here? Proto? Gold version? Unreleased game? The label is too fancy for a unreleased/proto, so I suspect it may be a final/gold/review copy, but I'm not sure. Uses normal Philips-head screws and not the security screws. My consoles are in storage at the moment so I'm unable to test, but I'm going to try to fire it up sooner than later.
Looks like a prototype. What exactly it is cannot be determined unless you play it or dump it. If I were to guess based on the abbreviation on the EPROM chip, I would say it is likely this game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Illusion_Starring_Mickey_Mouse_and_Donald_Duck
Yeh I would go with that! Looks like a proto I have a similar cart housing for Alien Storm same black label and font, the only real way is to fire that Genesis up and pop the cart in. The abbreviation is interesting as it doesn't quite match the title suggested but could be a working title and also looks ole there is a "II" which could signify the second Donald Duck game as I believe that it was his second appearance on the Genesis/Mega Drive if it is a working title for that game then may be in incomplete or have different content! Potentially exciting find! For me anyway.
The other possible released game match is QuackShot (as that solely features Donald Duck): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuackShot It's definitely a prototype/dev board, but I'm thinking this is a magazine review copy or a trade show piece. I'm leaning towards trade show (or something where it was partially on display) because of the professional looking label. Since the EPROMs are not socketed and it has this sized case/label, I doubt that this particular board was used in the development process for testing. That being said, it probably is the final code (or close to the final) of World of Illusion or QuackShot. The easiest way to tell if there are any differences at all is to buy a Retrode to dump it and then checksum your dump against the final. Otherwise...you're going to have to play them both and keep a close watch for differences.
MADDII would likely mean Mickey and Donald Duck II, so whichever was the second MD game with Mickey and Donald in it, this is it I'd assume.
I remember seeing these being in demo kiosks at stores that had multiple games slotted in a device that plugged in the genesis cartridge port and you could cycle through the games. They were just used for demos that's it.
