this is not new, but I have never seen it before. I'm sure some of you have, while others have not. early version of Granzort source before I noticed the status bar, the game looked different enough for me to think it was some other unreleased SuperGrafx game. a familar, final or near-final Granzort screen: I have no idea if those two skulls were related, if the developer changed it for the fnal release. or if the early one is from a different part of the game that never showed up in the final verson. ...l like the prototype screen better though
PC Engine related stuffs are always welcomed  Sadly I've never played Granzort while owning a SGX :noooo:
The first thing to do when checking for prototypes is to verify what was left in the game. But yes, interestingly, that status bar has a bit more information than the release version. I wonder what other information it had... level position?
GigaDrive : What is the date of yours screenshoots ?Which mags ? ccovell : "that status bar has a bit more information than the release version. I wonder what other information it had... level position?" Where do you see it ? At the bottom ?
Chris: thanks, that screenshot of the prototype version is different than the one I posted, may I ask where you got that from, and do you have any others? >_< Thibaut: the one I posted was from an online pdf of an issue of meanmachines magazine, I don't know the date but it's from sometime in 1990. I'm not very family with this magazine since I'm from the U.S., MM is a UK mag, i believe. http://www.meanmachinesmag.co.uk/upload/media/scans/supergrafx.pdf notice how the MM screenshot makes Grandzort (and Ghouls n Ghosts) look more colorful than they really are when you play the games on real hardware or even MagicEngine emulatiom. Chris's pictures are much closer to how colorful SuperGrafx games actually were....which oddly enough seemed less colorful than many PC-Engine games, although more colorful than MD-Genesis games. wait a sec, i am starting to feel stupid again - Chris, is your screenshot not a prototype, is that from the final game? I haven't played all the way through Granzort.
Yes, exactly. My point was that the final game (where my screenshots come from) includes both skulls in the 2nd level. But the picture in Mean Machines does look like a proto. There are obviously 3 lines of text data in the status bar, when the final version has only 2.
Very interesting. GigaDrive, could you please make a high-resolution picture of the photo on the left of Ghoul's and Ghosts, with the PowerConsole and the prototype in the SG ? Thanks a lot
Did any other power consoles ever pop up than the one on YJ a few years ago? If I recall, he wanted 3 million yen for it.
I'm sorry this is the highest resolution you are going to get: http://www.meanmachinesmag.co.uk/upload/media/scans/supergrafx.pdf I don't have the physical magazine.
GigaDrive : Thanks GaijinPunch : One more time, the auction on Yahoo was NOT a real auction to sell the PowerConsole. It was just a very high price to have some contacts, transactions for others PCE items,....
Ah, yes, sorry I hadn't posted it here, but I did hack the debug menus into some PCE games a few months ago: Granzört: http://forums.magicengine.com/en/viewtopic.php?t=1825 Battle Ace: http://forums.magicengine.com/en/viewtopic.php?t=1822 Daimakaimura: http://forums.magicengine.com/en/viewtopic.php?t=1823 Atomic Robo-Kid & Gomola Speed: http://forums.magicengine.com/en/viewtopic.php?t=1821 etc ;-)
